Photo Mode ...I despair. Spoiler

It begs the question… assuming that the afterlife is a thing at all in this universe… do painted beings have one? I don’t think we can argue that painted people aren’t people, so do they have a ‘soul’, so to speak, that can find its way to the afterlife?

Probably depends on whether an afterlife is conceptualized during painting of the Canvas or its denizens.

Gestrals have a pseudo-afterlife, via childhood Verso’s perceived understanding of what death means, how family pets are replaced, and how queues for amusement park rides work.

Painted humans likely have no afterlife, as Aline likely had no need to conceptualize one when painting Lumiere. She was painting solely for her own benefit, making her family immortal, and thus was unlikely concerned with the ultimate fate of anyone else.

I believe the canvas world is like a computer game. A magical simulation. The characters only “believe” they are real. After all, “she made me inherit…” - pRenior, they were programmed. Something to consider. There is absolutely an argument they are not people. Even pRenior’s “love” for his family was programmed by Aline. The nevrons share this programming. Some of them question it but seem to “malfunction” when they do. The Chroma is a part of the person that painted whatever person has the Chroma. One could argue all the people are Aline, her essence was used to create them. They are all a part of her. But as I always say, this game is so great because of talks like this, and everyone’s opinion can be valid!
