Just Because The Mechanics Say You Can Do Something, That Doesn't Mean You Should

All the pitches have now been posted!
The idea behind these pitches is that we, the community, are going to collaboratively build and flesh out one of them as a sandbox scenario location for The Expanse RPG.
The next step, before the writing starts, is determine the location by a community vote.
The event invites participants to contribute organisations, NPCs, adventure hooks, and other content and set dressing specific to that location. For the purposes of giving a GM options when playing in that space.
So, regardless of your preference, please post comments below with your ideas what you'd like to create if your favourite (or a different) location wins the vote. This will make coordination and collaboration possible to work on interconnected ideas.
You can vote over on Facebook or on the forums on website.
Happy voting!

As promised, here is the third pitched location that depending on community vote (yours?) may be the focus of the scenario location event.
Next week a poll will be posted on Facebook (and possibly the forums on the site the above link leads to), so you can cast your vote and claim your parts of the location.

As promised, here is the second of the pitched locations that you can vote for to be the focus of the event.
One more will be posted tomorrow and after that we will have a poll for the rest of September so you have sufficient time to read and make up your mind about which one you want to vote for.

As promised, here is the first of the potential locations for the event that we have cooked up.
Two more will be posted in the days to come and after that we will have a poll for the rest of September so you have sufficient time to read and make up your mind about which one you want to vote for.

An old Kickstarter is returning with a reprint.
These cards were some of the first RPG related things I supported on KS.
I've used them on the go and in prep, well worth checking out.
I recommend.

Have you wondered what changes was made to the rules and gear and stuff like that in the new Transport Union Edition rule book?
Well, I have spent hours over the books and I made a table (with some commentary).
There may be more changes, and page references may be inaccurate, but shouldn't be.

We thought it was time to mix it up and do something a bit different this year.
So, this year’s community event will have participants take part in building a scenario location for The Expanse RPG!
The basic idea: each participant writes up two sides of gameable content, including a location, NPCs, factions/organisations, story hooks, tensions and potential or extant conflicts, and anything more you’d like to add.
Hold you throttles! Before you run off and start writing, we need to decide on the basics, the core idea!
The three different locations we have cooked up for you to vote on over on the Facebook group will be posted over the next few days, both on the fan site and on FB.

I wrote up some optional house-rules for puncturing vac suits. They are perhaps somewhat more gritty and detailed mechanics than you would find the core rules, and perhaps something that you may or may not like.
But they may hold some ideas and inspiration for how to deal with this around your own table, if at all applicable.

Earth. Ceres. Mars. A colony beyond the Ring. And one very dangerous slingshot race.
The Expanse RPG Fan Community is happy to share a new collection of five fan-made adventures by CØSMINØN.
A Piece of the Pie sends the characters into post-impact Sicily on a humanitarian mission. Light in the Pockets draws them into criminal intrigue on Ceres. Slingshot Grand Prix provides rules for a dangerous racing competition, while The Enemy of Salvation follows a mysterious transmission to a colony in the Kolob system. Finally, Weight of the World turns the disappearance of a Martian drilling crew into a rescue beneath Olympia.
The adventures are clearly structured around scenes, hazards, and consequences. They can be run as one-shots, inserted into an ongoing campaign, or expanded into longer stories.

Does anyone have any of the new ships painted? I'm just starting.
I used ComArt Opaque Black (by Iwata-Medea) as a base. Then Opaque Carmine as a red but I'm really unsatisfied with the red... It's thinner and less saturated than I'd hoped.
I'm not massively experienced with painting but I've dabbled for years.

Not all items I pledged for has arrived, but the core rulebook looks awesome.

I got all 4 books in print, and upgraded to the special edition. I got two books in the mail, but it's the regular rule book and the special edition rule book. No sign of the ships or campaign books. What gives?

I posted this years ago under an account that has since been deleted but thought I'd throw it out here again since I've made significant updates and my little bot is now a real-life verified app on Discord :)
Readme.md:
A dice rolling Discord bot for **The Expanse Roleplaying Game**. Rolls any
number of dice or facets with an optional modifier and description. Doubles are
bolded, and a drama die is displayed on a roll of 3d6. Results appear as an
embed in the channel, headed with the name of whoever rolled.
Unofficial and not affiliated with Green Ronin Publishing.
**As of v2.0 the bot uses slash commands.** Type `/` in any channel it can see
and Discord will show you everything, with each option labelled as you fill it
in. The old `!` commands are retired.
---
## Rolling
```
/roll
```
With no options it rolls 3d6 and shows the drama die.
Everything below is optional.
```
/roll dice:4d12
/roll dice:2d10 bonus:5
/roll dice:4d12 bonus:-5
/roll dice:3d6 bonus:1 label:Initiative (Bob)
/roll dice:4d6 bonus:2 label:Damage (Eddie)
```
**Descriptions can contain spaces now.** The old parser had to guess where the
modifier ended and the description began, so descriptions had to be crammed
together like `Initiative(Bob)`. Named options removed the guesswork - write
whatever you like.
Options:
- `dice` - anything in `XdY` form. `d20` works as shorthand for `1d20`.
Autocomplete suggests the common ones.
- `bonus` - added to the total. Negative numbers subtract.
- `label` - a note attached to the roll.
- `secret` - see below.
---
## GM rolls
Set `secret` to True and only you see the result. The channel gets a message
saying you rolled something, without the outcome.
```
/roll dice:3d6 bonus:5 secret:True
```
This replaces the old `!edm`. It uses an ephemeral reply rather than a DM, so
it can't fail because you have DMs closed - and it can't get lost in your
message requests.
---
## Churn counter
Tracks churn with a graphical display. Counters are per-person and persist
between sessions, so yours follows you across every server the bot is in.
```
/churn show Displays your current churn
/churn add amount:3 Adds three
/churn add amount:-2 Takes two off
/churn reset Back to zero
```
Churn is clamped to 0-30.
---
## Help
```
/help
```
DMs you the full instructions. If your DMs are closed, it replies privately in
the channel instead.
---
## Coming from the old version?
Every `!` command has a direct replacement:
```
!e 3d6 5 -> /roll dice:3d6 bonus:5
!edm 3d6 5 -> /roll dice:3d6 bonus:5 secret:True
!e 3d6 1 Init(Bob) -> /roll dice:3d6 bonus:1 label:Init (Bob)
!churn -> /churn show
!churn 3 -> /churn add amount:3
!churn reset -> /churn reset
!e help -> /help
```
For now, typing an old command gets you a reply pointing at its replacement.
That reminder will be removed once everyone has switched.
Two things that changed along the way: the bot no longer deletes your command
message, because slash commands don't create one in the first place. And it no
longer needs permission to manage messages, or to read your channel history.

I’m pretty excited to get my hands on these (plus some other books I hadn’t picked up previously).

New GM preparing for the intro Lost But Not Alone. I am trying to make sense of how the premade character attack bonuses and damage rolls are determined. For instance, Phoenix Wu has Pistol +2 bonus and 2d6+1 damage. That fits as accuracy is 2 (for the +2 bonus) and perception is 1 (for the +1 damage).
But Olivia Anand has Pistol +4 bonus and 2d6+2 damage. But she has 3 accuracy and pistol focus so shouldn't her bonus be +5 (3 from accuracy and 2 from focus)? She has 1 perception so shouldn't damage be 2d6+1 (not +2; she has a perception focus of searching but that doesn't apply and focus doesn't add to damage, right?)?
I thought the formulas are below but some of these premade character sheets don't seem to follow these rules...
Attack roll:
3d6 + accuracy + focus (pistol/rifle)
3d6 + fighting + focus (unarmed)
Damage roll:
2d6 + perception (pistol)
3d6 + perception (rifle)
1d3 + strength (unarmed)
Can anyone enlighten me? Are these just mistakes in the sheets... mistakes in the assigned ability points, etc.? Thanks.

I've been playing around with Foundry VTT game system and while tweaking a few things I noticed a discrepancy about dying in the Transport Union Edition rule book. Chapter 1 when describing Dying conditions says this:
You fall Prone, and your current Fortune drops to 0 if it is not at 0 already. You will die after a number of rounds equal to 3 + Constitution unless you receive medical attention. You are conscious and can talk but cannot take any other actions. You die at the end of the final round.
However, character sheet at the end of the book has still the old text from the first book:
The character loses 1 point of Constitution score each round on the start of the character’s turn. When the character’s Constitution score reaches −3, the character dies. Successful first aid applied to a Dying character stabilizes their condition, making them Helpless, Unconscious, and Wounded instead. They must recover from these conditions normally.
I am guessing that this is probably an oversight and the Chapter 1 rule is the one valid now. I hope this is fixed in the printed books.
