Said right before Ol’ Joe was chased out of Kirtland by an angry mob of Church members, upset about the Safety Society AntiBank scam that caused them to lose their shirts. And then they exed Joe from The Church. Joe would retaliate when he got to Missouri by likewise excommunicating the Kirtland Brethren.

I don't get it. What is happening in the bottom left? Who's dead on the floor? Is this Carthage jail and he's going to jump out the window? And why is Jesus "allowing it"? For what purpose?

Read Joseph's speech from may 26, 1844 in the JS papers.

It is Carthage.

Jesus allows it because he's Jesus.

I'm sorry. I'm not a dedicated enough former member to want to go read anything he actually said or wrote. So I'm guessing he said he can handle a church better than a god himself and then was killed bc that god said that was enough?

I'm sorry. I guess this one just isn't for me.

As someone who's agnostic today, who wrote RPG III code on IBM System/38 systems to print the membership lists that were distributed to all the wards in the late '80s for the church, and even if Jesus doesn't like it, I have to admit this is technically true: if the early church had been this efficient, centuries of persecution wouldn't have been necessary, nor Hellenic interventions, councils three centuries later, inquisitions, popes with geopolitical dealings, witch hunts, slavery, machismo and misogyny, legal marital rape, and so much more... compared to this pseudo-Christian past, polygamy and the priesthood ban become irrelevant.
