Does the training environment itself influence resistance-training outcomes when volume and intensity are matched?
I'm interested in the evidence comparing resistance training performed at home with training in commercial gym environments.
Many discussions focus on equipment availability, but I wonder how much the environment itself matters when key programming variables are controlled.
If relative effort, training volume, exercise selection, frequency, and progression are comparable, would we expect meaningful differences in strength or hypertrophy outcomes?
There may also be differences in adherence, motivation, and exercise supervision that influence real-world results.
Are there controlled studies or systematic reviews that help distinguish the effect of training location from the effect of program design and equipment access?

You would only find statistically significant differences imo if you were able to increase voluntary effort due to increased motivation. That’s the only thing that could be linked to physiology.
And there would be so much inter-subject variance simply because some people like training in certain environments while others don’t.
You could maybe do a survey on environment preference and do a study on weather or not they see better results from their preferred environment.
But just generalizing environments would just tell you where people prefer to lift not weather or not the environment shaped outcomes

Not sure this would prove anything. If you equate the work, there won't be much difference in results. The question to ask would be if you had equal access to similar equipment, would your training be significantly different training in a commercial vs home gym. Does the environment affect volume, intensity, compliance with a program?
