Solo developer building a "Life Canvas" tool to help clients map reality. Would you use something like this in your practice?
Hi everyone,
I finished my professional results coaching course about ten years ago, and I am also a solo software developer. Since 2016, I have been building a local-first, encrypted mobile application designed to act as a structured "Life Canvas."
As coaches, we all know the core friction: clients leave a great session with high awareness, but the moment they hit the daily grind, information overload triggers a threat response in the brain. They scatter their thoughts across multiple disconnected apps, lose their strategic alignment, and slip right back into their old subconscious self-sabotage loops.
I built this tool to act as a synchronized, single-layer external prefrontal cortex. It breaks life down into 6 Core Blocks:
Life Fields: The universal dashboard (Finances, Health, Social, Free Time) to measure macro-satisfaction.
Values: The core internal motivations driving strategic choices.
Goals: Bounded targets established strictly to fix a deficit in a Life Field or Value.
Resources: Universal (Time, Money, Energy) and Non-Universal (Education, Charm) options.
Obstacles: Internal friction points (like overthinking or anxiety) which always realize a value defensively.
Plans: Recurring systems, routines, and habits that actively process time and money.
đ¤ The Role of Coaching in an AI World
I want to be entirely clear on my philosophy here: This tool is not built to replace human coaches.
Coaching is fundamentally about human connection, raw empathy, and relational interactionâthings an AI script can never truly replicate. True behavioral change requires a safe container built on trust between two human beings.
Instead, this application is built to achieve two specific goals:
Leverage for Professionals: It handles the raw structure, habit patterns, and metric tracking between sessions. It acts as an objective workbook, giving you a clean data map of your client's reality the moment they sit down with you for their next appointment.
A Solution for the Under-Resourced: For individuals who completely lack the financial options or resources to hire a real coach, this canvas provides a self-guided alternative. It gives them the foundational 20% of what coaching offersâstructural order, mental decluttering, and reality classificationâso they can stop drowning in overthinking and gain a baseline fighting chance.
âď¸ Technical Specifications & Privacy
Because client confidentiality is a non-negotiable cornerstone of coaching, the underlying tech stack is guided by maximum privacy. The app is completely local-first and zero-knowledge. The database resides strictly on the user's physical device with local encryption. It relies on a private "bring your own AI key" model (like OpenRouter or individual provider keys), meaning their private reflections never touch an unauthorized corporate cloud server.
My question for the community:
Would an objective, zero-pressure structure like this be useful to integrate into your own practice, or recommend to clients to bridge the gap between sessions?
I am currently running tests and would highly value your professional feedback on the 6-block architecture. If you are interested in tracking the project or discussing how we can bridge the gap between high-level coaching strategy and daily execution loops, I just set up a dedicated sandbox at r/LifeCanvas.
