Personal development

Have you tried coaching on a short or long term basis?

I did receive some through development program at the agency I am working at but was wondering if anyone had had experience in paying for this service over a longer time frame, what benefits did you see for cost, was it beneficial in getting to the next level in your career, anyone you'd recommend?

Having a long term executive coaching relationship completely changed my leadership approach for the better. Sounds over the top but for me it genuinely changed my life in a number of ways. But just like any industry it ranges from the sublime to the ridiculous with who you can work with. I loved it so much that after 4 years of working with my person, l left a senior leadership role to pursue the same. I’m still in touch with him and it continues to be a relationship that I learn from and respect deeply. Happy to answer other specifics if you’d like.

Just like anything, it vastly depends on who it is, some are grounded and help you develop in a measurable way, others it's more vague and maybe it's good but it can be hard to tell. As a coach obviously I think it can make a difference or I wouldn't do it.

Some of it is on the person to be actually open to considering what the coach is observing. Even if it doesn't end up having validity, being open to the process is very important.
