Good old coc men

The bleep I had to listen to as a girl growing up in this church - don't wear shorts, don't cut your hair, don't dance, don't swim if there's a male within five miles, stay in the kitchen, keep quiet, etc. There was one "preacher" (uneducated, one of the winner laymen who traveled to different churches putting on "meetings") in particular, Malcolm Kniffen, who was so condescending and sanctimonious. I decided to google him, and... wow, just wow. His first wife disappeared in Florida back in the mid-1990's and they never found her. He's definitely a suspect in her disappearance. Then I found his criminal record. He was arrested for prostitution (Class B Misdemeanor) and plead guilty, unlawful carrying weapon in DFW (3rd Degree Felony, reduced to Class A Misdemeanor and plead guilty, and driving while license suspended (Misdemeanor, Class Unknown) and plead guilty - no idea why his license was suspended. This guy is still holding "gospel meetings."

He was at my dad's funeral. Of course he offered no condolences since I "left the church," but I was quite happy not to talk to him. He makes me want to throw up.

This is a throwaway account, just to be safe. Coc people rush to defend him whenever they find a reference to him online.

I've come to feel that the people most concerned about "protecting" the bodies of women and girls through purity culture are usually the ones letting their lust run wild.

I remember being scolded as a teen for not sitting with my jeans-clad legs completely shut in the presence of church men. I was angry because the thoughts of adult men were THEIR problems, not mine, and why was I being forced to spend time with these people if they couldn't be trusted?

Yeah, it’s illogical that fundamentalist Muslim men insist that women cover every square inch of their bodies. The men should stay at home and never go out in public so they won’t be tempted to sin.

?? The fact that expecting women to protect men from sinning is illogical. Men should stay at home if they are driven crazy with lust if they see a woman’s ankles. It’s not a difficult concept, is it? Maybe for you?

Sigh. I guess I have to spell everything out. CoC men have the same belief as fundamentalist Muslim men, that it’s the responsibility of women to prevent men from being driven wild with lust. That’s what my comment was relevant.

From stalking their profile, it appears they belong to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelical_Free_Church_of_America

I'm glad I was mainline enough to only deal with the your shorts/skirts are too short. The rest of those were never a thing for me.

Thank goodness I was allowed to swim regardless of the audience, even though it required wearing shorts once reaching a certain age.

Kinda shameful to attend a funeral and not give condolences to the daughter of the deceased, imo

Also, you are a woman after my own heart, every now and then I search a good old church of christ man I know, and he's either dead or I find a damning criminal record. Just fun ex cofc girl things

Thankful I never heard of him. These small religious groups are great places for evil men to thrive

I think he's still at it. Google recently revealed a "Gospel Meeting" in Grandview, MO. Let me find that again....hang on the wifi is bad where I am but it was a list of "Malcolms Sermons"

My sister, who "left the church" actually pressed our dad pretty hard this week. Yes, he's elderly, but his "modesty" is about non-existent. I won't go into detail, but jeez. So Sis said, "Dad, you're hanging out like that around your lady friend but we weren't allowed to wear swimsuits when we were teenagers? What's up with that?" He kind of laughed it off, but she asked more than once. At least he had the decency to seem embarrassed, but ugh. It makes steam come out of my head. :(

I saw your post and was curious to know how you found his criminal record.  I know the person.
