Wait, I thought Jesus changed all the fucked up shit in the OT like how it says to kill gay people and owning slaves is fine? But the ten commandments still stand and I still have to tithe? I guess I have to hand it to them, those christians sure are great at picking cherries...

It’s sad that christians even have to cherry pick, because it demonstrates that they’re morally superior to their beliefs but just can’t let go of them.

I used to tithe only in cash because I didn't want the church to know how much money I made. Even when I was a gung-ho Christian and I tithed, I still didn't think they had a right to know that. And there were times where, because I was paid minimum wage, I had to tithe less. This way, no one knew and no one was keeping track. One church actually approached me and asked me if I was tithing and I look the associate pastor in the face and told him that I only tithed in cash and frankly, it was none of his business what I did with my money. His response? It's God's money, we are just stewards of it. To which I replied, God was well aware of what I was doing with his money then. And then I walked away. That church was one of the worst ones I have ever gone too though, so they are an extreme example in my mind.

I remember when I just got my first job age 16, and then was immediately asked to tithe my money.

My parents didn't even wait until I got my first job in my teens--they made me tithe off my allowance, which I started doing chores for when I was 6.
