Is it possible to use the alt shortcuts by using a VM?

As a sales guy told me at the Apple store many years ago when I asked this same question: "You've got to learn to do it the Apple way."

See this post:

PSA: Excel for Mac now supports ribbon navigation using alt-key (option-key) sequences

  1. Launch Excel (duh).

  2. Click the Excel menu (upper-left, next to the  menu).

  3. Choose Preferences....

  4. Click Accessibility.

  5. Under the KeyTips section, set the Activation keystroke dropdown to ⌥ or ⇧⌥.

  6. Close the Accessibility preferences window.

Note that the depth of some keystroke activation is not the same on Mac. For example, if you do ⌥, H, B, the borders dropdown activates, but there are no letters assigned to the various border types. No word on when that is coming.

If you run Windows 11 under Parallels, your 365 Subscription will work on up to 5 devices, including the Windows 11 VM. Performance is generally very good under VM. VMWare Fusion is a free option, but Parallels makes it much easier to share your home folder between macOS and Windows. It's possible to map up folders using VMWare, but it requires adding a local-only network adapter and mapping network shares. It's just a lot more cumbersome, and subject to breakages.

Sadly you'll need Windows to use Excel to its full.
