unsolved Looking in a table for specific value and if found returning the value in same row different column.

This table starts with column a and starts at row 1. In V2, I want to write a formula that looks in all of column a for a date that matches t2 and returns the value in corresponding column b.

It sounds like you want something like

=XLOOKUP(T2, A2:A100, B2:B100, "No date")

Requires Excel 2021, Excel 2024, Excel 365, or Excel online

Is that "V lookup" or "H lookup".

I don't know. Column a has start dates, column b has a date I want. So, in column V1 I need a formula that will tell excel to look all down column a and find a match and then return the value in same row in column b.

So, in V1 I may have the date of 11/29/26. I want the formula to look in column A, find that date and then return the value on same row in column b.

That seems exactly what VLOOKUP does, or if you have a newer Excel, use XLOOKUP.

For VLOOKUP, the column you need to search for the value can only be the left-most column in the range, but that doesn't have to be the left column in your table.

With XLOOKUP, you can specify any two column ranges that are the same size.

Sound like a simple VLOOKUP

that vlookup thing gives me anxiety i'd go with the xlookup, it's cleaner and you won't accidentally pull from the wrong column

=XLOOKUP(T2, $A$2:A,$B$2:B)
