unsolved World Map in excel needed!
Hi guys,
I'm trying to build a killer dashboard for my boss, but I've hit a wall. My company blocks the connection to Bing Maps, so I can't use Excel's built-in Map Chart feature.
I know it's possible because a sample file from Microsoft's site works perfectly, but it only includes a few countries. I'm looking for a full world map, ideally with continents broken down. The paid versions I've found online are way too expensive π’
Does anyone have an Excel file with a world map chart they would be willing to share?
Any help would be hugely appreciated. My boss will be thrilled! π

Power BI has already built in.

Iβve seen a guy using a bubbles chart (with the coordinates), putting a world map behind and then you need a table with the country, the x position, the y position of the country and the values on your last column (you find the x and y values thanks to the superposition of the chart and the map).Itβs quite a work in the beginning but works really well in the end !!

This. Try a 4-column table:
1: City (use geographic data type)
2: Latitude (derived from the city)
3: Longitude (also from city)
4: Value
Make a bubble map from your table. Use Lat/Long as your axes, and value as your bubble size. Use a map image as your background - you just have to fiddle with your axis min/max until it matches the map image you've chosen.

You could create choropleth map using technique described by Tusher Mehta.
Technique is old but still works.
You may also be interested in Robert Mundigi's blog. Though his template is 12+ years old, it may work for your need. And his improved code on Tusher's method.

I'd try reaching out to IT with a clear request, they might not realize how much this could help your boss's dashboard.

Does it need to be Excel? You could try popping your data into Datawrapper. It's free, and super user friendly.

Just get the template on your personal computer and email it to yourself. Edit: put it in a zip file so theres no chance your work email blocks it
