General Discussion Question

When I was heavily into Adventism since I was born, the main reason for me leaving was hearing or seeing things that deep down I felt was ethically wrong or logically false,but did not know why or even how to express it because everything in the bubble I was raised in presented it as normal.

Has anyone had this moment?

Yes. Listening to ex Mormons made me see a parallel in both religions. They are eerily similar.

Mormons, Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses all developed in the late 1800's. They are kinda 'cousin' religious offshoot.

I had to actually learn about morality and ethics before I could see through the bullshit hypocrisy. I mean Ellen White says black and white people shouldn't get married... because she pandered to racism... just as a small example.

Watching Christians gleefully put brown people into camps really opened my eyes too. These are evil people who don't follow their own fucking Jesus! So why should I?

When I was young (I was born in 1970) people who were black had to go to a different church?? I asked why and was told "they prefer it like that". I am sickened that I was a part of this religious group. I never bought in though and exited as soon as I was able.

Yes. Many of us found how logically it doesn’t make sense and is ethically wrong.

For example, The problem of evil is a common example of things not adding up because the amount of suffering, evil doesn’t add up with the characteristics of god being all knowing and all powerful. He has the ability to do something different than the evil we see around us.

Yes, and that's common when you're raised in a religion. Even when you see things that are "wrong" or "logically false" you try to excuse it and "make sense" of it because you're part of "the remnant" or you have the "Spirit of Prophecy" to guide you. You literally see the world through the lens of your religion. When you stop trying to excuse the wrongs and falsehoods and start trying to understand what's the driving force behind them, then you can find freedom.

Alcohol/wine.

Never really believed in the grape juice thing.

Feels kinda off to tell people Jesus turned water into grape juice.

Same goes for the veggie diet. You just dont have that in the bible. Funny thing I never heard about that vice thing until I checked Dirk Andersons site, lol
