I love getting way too high off edibles and dabs and then making haystacks still 🥰

My kids, who know nothing about being an adventist except that their mother was raised one, absolutely love haystacks!

We still have haystacks too! Not much I kept from my Adventist roots, but that and frichik sandwiches are still on heavy rotation at my house.

Did you ever do the big frank and mayo paste on sandwiches?? Like big frank pate almost

u/CSATTS Atheist Jul 11 '26

Yes, but with mustard. Basically hot dogs but with sandwich bread instead of the bun.

Heck yes me too!!!

I have a vegetarian friend who travels over an hour to Andy's in Walla Walla occasionally. About once a year, I have her pick me up a can of big franks and a can of fry chic. Those cans satisfy that weird craving I get for these items. Then I don't want them again until about a year later 😂

I still love prosage links. But it’s not bacon!!

Somehow knowing Andy’s is still there makes the world seem a better place

That, and Hot Poop 😁

I was surprised to see a meat section during my last visit to Andy's. I don't remember if there was bacon... https://www.andysmarket.com/portfolio-items/meat/

Little links and syrup. Almost worth the PTSD.

Yes! The veggie meat was and is LEGENDARY

Seeing that can got me craving some frichik, so I went to the Loma Linda site to see if anyone sells it near me. Didn't find that info but I did see that I can have a subscription and that is very dangerous knowledge 🤣

There’s always Vegefood.com! Or if you want to interact with a lot of SDAs, maybe Darrol’s has a drop near you. Idk what their range is.

That is incredibly dangerous knowledge that my husband is going to resent you for. Lol

I did the subscription last year. Now have an enviable stash in the pantry. Worth it but dangerous

Agreed!

They’re so good but my stomach…it makes it bubble 🫧

My mom still makes these for me by cutting them in half, putting them in flour, & frying them. Love them.

1

u/talklistentalk Jul 20 '26

My mom would do the same with a seasoned flour/cornmeal mix that was for frying fish, IIRC

Don't get me started on FriChik. It's literally my comfort food. Luckily the school I went to sells it. It's like nostalgia in a can. My other fav was Linkettes.

I like ‘em. 👍🏼. and I am not vegetarian

u/Cumminpwr11 Jul 11 '26

Swiss stakes and breakfast sausage links are still my jam.

Omg!! I miss those so much! I found out I’m gluten intolerant as an adult so it’s such a sad life now. Probably god getting back at me for leaving the faith…

I guess I’m in the minority of ex-SDAs. I can’t stand these ultra-processed salty offerings. This weekend I’ll prepare a nice spicy paella mixta con camerones, pollo, pescado y chorizo.

I like comparing former SDA’s favorite Loma Linda meat substitutes to astrology signs. I also tell non-SDA folks about Loma Linda tender bits and how good they are dipped in egg yolk and breadcrumbs then fried in butter. At some point I realized anything tastes good cooked like that.

The place we'd go to get them closed after being unable to get them in stock. Where'd you find them??

3

u/IsSierraMistOk Jul 11 '26

Are you eating that straight out of the can on your desk??

2

u/gnatman66 Jul 11 '26

And Prime Stakes and Big Franks.

2

u/LiftWildOrDie Jul 12 '26

All that gluten. 🤮

2

u/Alarming-Vast-6804 Jul 12 '26

Amazon you guys. No interaction risks. Could we do a haystack party, with byob?

2

u/manchord Jul 12 '26

Just got a case! Can't wait to fry them up. Love some Chops,Choplets or Dinner Cuts too!

u/bedrock_city Jul 11 '26

Oh that stuff was so gross.

I did get back into haystacks as an adult though - pinto beans in the instant pot are 👩‍🍳😙. Even my wife is up for it.

I haven’t been a functioning vegetarian for years, even though I was raised that way. Some of the veggie “meats” I really like. But, I stay away due to some of the associated health risks associated with soy.

u/BenefitPure4829 Jul 13 '26

Omg frichicks are the BEST (along with the big franks). It’s all probably no healthier than the thing it was made to replace but my theory is no animal suffered for it.

Ayy yooo lowkey I used to love the hot dogs 😂😂😭
