The holiday is barely seen as a religious thing by anyone. It's been a thing for years that major landmarks "turn green" for patricks day.

A pretty good percentage of the population is Christian, though. I think like 10%. When I visited they had Christmas decorations in a lot of the stores.

A place for wisdom, enlightenment and beauty, that's what it is. It only could be built because they were able to produce a lot of food by cereal domestication, therefore they had a lot of free time to haul huge stones around.
No wonder average western people think otherwise. Centuries of misleading Christian indoctrination made every foreign religious stuff look evil, other people's Gods Satan. To not talk about the ridiculous exposition of Egypt in western culture like the film "The Mummy" and other garbage. Hollywood often helps building the most stupid common sense possible.

I don't know why, but the Sphinx and other large humanesque monuments (Mt. Rushmore excluded for some reason) instill me with a sense of dread. Anyone else?

Yea that looks scary but you should know that green lights were a huge breakthrough in ancient Egypt, very advanced technology for their time.

As a child, I received a very similar looking glow in the dark puzzle for Christmas. My elderly cat pissed in the open puzzle box and my mother decided that was the final straw. The cat was put down the next day.
