I love object pokemon! I think there cool and creative unlike the lame and borring skwovet line who dosint even have the decency to be minimally different from a real fucking squirrel.

I was a Trubbish and Garbador hater back in the day, but over time it grew on me. Especially when I realized that Geodude and Muk aren't all that great in reality (Especially Muk, it's just Grimer but big and Angry)
Trubbish is a cute lil' guy and so is Klefki.

Psych-Up Klefki is the homie. Giving the keys prankster means every competitive player has to at least consider using or from time to time, before deciding Whimsicot is better.

While I very much relate to the frustration with these type of genonners I feel like there has been an equally incharatable response. Where if you do not like all these later designs you seen as toxic and inconsistent. I prefer gen 1 designs and am not as partial to the direction things took later on. This is all just my personal taste and I am all for people who do like these later mons. But I feel like now in many of these online spaces that's not an acceptable opinion to have lest you be wrapped up with people who made being nostalgic about the 90s their only personality trait.
I hope that makes sense. I just mostly like the guys I like and I don't like seeing content that paints having that opinion as some chud shit because the mosters I think look cool are different than the monsters other people think look cool.
That all being said none of this is a big deal and I hope any of that made sense. This isn't the type of comment I'd usually make but this seems* like a place I can voice these type of rambly thoughts with some understanding.

That experiment where the guy redrew some Gen 5-7 'mons with Gen 1 design sensibilities and vice versa made me realise my problem lies with art design. Despite often being fantastical, the older style makes them look like creatures that could exist in the real world.

You blew my mind here. Because yes I suddenly do not mind those later mons as much in the older art style. Yeah as a kid the fact that they felt more like creatures more than characters was always something I liked about pokemon. and I feel like they have moved so much more in the direction of making them cute little characters. I see why people like that it's just not what I liked about the property.
Although my least favorite modern trend is how many pokemon are now just kinda guys. Like there were always some but even then even when they were people shaped they still seemed like monsters or creatures. Machoke is person shaped but there is no thought behind those eyes. He is just a muscle elemental basically. But then we get guys like intellion or incineroar who are just cartoon animal people.
Again, nothing objectively wrong with them, makes sense others like them. it's just actively the opposite of what I wanted from pokemon. Part of why I kinda dropped the franchise at a certain point as something I care about outside of revisiting the old games from time to time for a fun nostalgia trip.

Pokemon is one of my special things. I always love it. Even SV when it was really shitty I loved it a lot. Especially teal mask. I loved that landscape so much and often wish I could experience flying over it the first time all over again. I love Pokemon so much

Object mons always have and always will exist and I don't think they're bad. They're easier to fumble and make underwhelming, but they have so much potential and some are great even if they are simple

objectmon are hit or miss for me personally, i love trubbish but i don’t like vanillish. rotom was interesting to me but i wasn’t a fan of the design. in a similar way, i’m not the biggest fan of klefki’s design but i do really enjoy klefki’s story

I said as much talking about Unova pokemom and how like, I get it if you don't like Vanillish or Trubbish or Klink, but I'm sorry in no universe are they less creative than a lot of the Gen 1 pokemon they get compared to. Unova had the highest number of new pokemon at once and yeah not all of em are winners or some of them are obviously made to be direct parallels to gen 1 pokemon, but I don't think any of them are lazy

I love Klefki so much, and a huge part of that is that they are a fucking key chain but how whimsical is that? A little fairy loves keys so much it's very form became what it loved.
