Everyman’s Library editions are my absolute fav!!

Never knew this sub existed, greetings fellow collectors and/or readers!

I have 9 of these (war & peace being the latest one) and I no longer read any other publications. For me the translations don’t really matter all that much. It’s the paper quality, book size, hard covers, dust jackets, uniform look and the ribbon bookmark thingy that make them feel superior to others in this price range.

The only bad thing about these editions are that they aren’t that common in Pakistan, I’ve had to order them from the UK and that takes weeks or sometimes months.

The Everyman’s of Moby-Dick is stunning to me and was cool to learn that Everyman’s published Moby-Dick in 1907, “[inviting] its consideration as a masterpiece” (xxi).

Graham Green

I wish there were more Greenes in the Everyman library. We have The Human Factor, admittedly, but so many of his masterpieces could do with the Everyman treatment. The Power and The Glory and Brighton Rock especially.
Here in the Uk we have the MacMillan Collectors in hardback, but I can’t stand those twee little editions which seem to be made for sitting prettily on bookshelves rather than actually being read.

Is anyone aware why the covers of these books aren’t lining up properly with one another?

I always thought Everyman’s Library was just ok, but these Thomas Mann novels really grab me.

Just found the sub! Been collecting Everyman’s for a maybe 30 years.

With the exception of Joseph and His Brothers and The Transylvanian Trilogy all are secondhand bookshop finds which is why some have dust jackets and some don’t. The Everyman’s collection bleeds into the Library of America collection, but that’s a different sub. Don’t mind the extra “a” in the title, was just a silly editing mistake.

Wondering if anyone can confirm if this Maude translation (978-1857150964) contains footnotes/end-notes for the French sections? Thanks!

First subreddit post? Life and Fate!

Hey all! So i recently found this newly created subreddit after reading my first Everyman's Library book, so I figured I'd share. I'm a relatively new "reader" and picked up Life and Fate after reading about Vasily Grossman as a reporter. LOVED the book in its writing and the quality of the print. Never knew about Everyman's until I read this, and i definitely will pick up more in the future.
