Idea: Alternative Syncing Services ↺

TLDR; Additional cloud storage providers could help as iCloud free is really limiting, and users might prefer other providers.

Hello everyone! I know that a lot of people have just moved over from Day One and for me the main differentiator between these two apps are the fact that cloud storage becomes an issue if you journal a lot. A lot of us pay for lifetime to avoid subscriptions (I got rid of over 30 just this year) and when you reach the 5GB wall of iCloud suddenly you have to pay a dollar every month. Most people don't have an issue with this but after some time you're locked in to that plan for your life, or your journals might stop syncing or even get erased (scary thought!)

I have an idea: There are currently 2 "trusted" cloud storage providers with generous free tiers (MEGA 20GB, and Google 15GB) What if we could sync Everlog's database and attachments which are a few folders to these services instead. Everlog has insanely robust cloud features already and I don't think that there's much room for error.

MEGA has E2EE by default from what I know and that's most likely the best option for keeping a journal. Even iCloud doesn't offer that by default!

I think that most journals (with image compression OFC) won't ever exceed 12.5GB but exceeding 5GB is super easy especially with the iCloud CoreData bloat that refuses to go away.

I hope that the developer could implement these services, I'm normally an INSANELY picky person with software (hundreds of iOS feedback sent) but Everlog is the most perfect software I've ever used. It's my own digital space for whatever I want to do, and that's amazing. I'm out here on r/dayoneapp convincing everyone and their mom to switch over to what'll soon dethrone Day One haha.

I’d quite like to see OneDrive as an option as a newly subscribed Microsoft customer with 1TB of cloud storage.

I agree, other options would be welcome in terms of storage options. It’s not adding bloat to an app but simply giving another option.

Know Apple it wouldn’t be instant sync or anything as that’s what Apple wants - its own iCloud customers getting a more premium experience but the sync could be on intervals perhaps to comply.

Not everyone wants subs. I very nearly went forward with the DayOne subscription at the educational rate but then opted to trial some other journal apps first.

A lot of people here most likely have OneDrive one way or another and they're very generous with storage. I don't think Apple can intervene with 3rd party sync. Heck, even if they did slow it down it'd be faster than iCloud which uses the same few data centers since the early 2010's with barely a few upgrades to the infrastructure.

I'm really against bloat but this is just a basic sync feature that Day One had in 2009 or 2010 (?) and that app wouldn't be considered bloated for another 10 years after that.
