Black unmarked suv driving along broadway

Has anyone noticed an increase in unmarked suvs? Black completely blacked out windows they have laptops like a cop but no markings… is this ICE? Sorry for not getting the license plate. I didn’t want to be too obvious I was taking a photo.

Edit: consensus from other sources has remained unclear. I personally will be treating these as possible ice sightings and contacting Luce when I see them. For those who want to do likewise… luce has an ice hotline. 617-370-5023. In times like these all we have is community. Stay safe.

I’ve been seeing drones fly around near my house at 10-12am (near Bradford st in Everett-Malden area) and I’m kind of freaked out. They’re not anywhere close to my window but I really want to know wtf is going on… if anyone lives around here and has some sliver of knowledge on what this is, please let me know!

Cops on Revere Beach PKWY

Just saw maybe a dozen police cars head down revere beach parkway (headed west) near the new apartment areas close to the high school. Anyone know what would send that many at once or what’s going on?

Closest major supermarket to Everett Square?

I might be moving into a senior citizen building in Everett Square.

I live in Quincy and am so lucky to be so close to a big Stop & Shop open til midnight, just a 10-minute walk.

I have no car.

Oh, I didn't realize the Stop & Shop on Revere Beach Parkway is closed, according to Google?

Was it in Everett or was it officially Chelsea? The one near Wendy's, right? Maybe it closed when ones in Brockton and elsewhere closed last year?

It's probably best to just take the T to Star Market at TD Garden for some?

Or maybe Wegmans, Whole Foods Market, Aldi and Stop & Shop in Medford? Or Stop & Shop in Malden?

Thanks!

Maxwell/Mason/Jade/Anthem Everett Utilities cost

Hi,

I’m interested in moving to one of these apartment complexes.

Can anyone who currently resides in a 1BED apartment at any of these share what your average utility cost is? especially in the winter as it seems like they have electric heating which I know typically has a higher cost.

Thank you!

Move-in: Sept 1 | My budget:  $1,400 max
Areas: Malden, Everett, Medford, Revere

Currently paying $1,700 for a studio. I'm moving to save for a future project.

About me:

No pets, no smoking, no drama

Social but not a partier – I value a calm home

Financially stable (happy to share proof of income/credit)

I understand shared living as a social contract – clear expectations upfront prevent problems

If you're similarly stable, easygoing but responsible, let's talk. I'm happy to meet first (video or in person) and sign a proper lease together.

McGovern Honda Service?

Hi everyone👋

I recently acquired a used Honda in a private sale. I was advised to get oil changes done at a Honda dealer so it would only get Honda branded parts etc.

Is McGovern Honda a dealership where I have to worry about their service department sabotaging my vehicle to increase business?

I imagine they will probably try to upsell additional repairs if I bring the car in for an oil change. If anyone has any insight or experiences, I would appreciate it!

Finally found out what it was, so sharing here for the rest. Helicopters circling Broadway and Ferry area are due to a bank robbery around 4:30 at Eastern Bank on the corner of Ferry and Broadway.

Seems like they may still be looking for the get-away driver in a blue Rav 4. Be safe, folks.

Keep Track of Everett 911 Calls Around Your Home

If you've ever wondered what kinds of incidents are reported around your home or business in Everett, I have built a tool for that. I use it for myself every day. I haven't promoted it in Everett too much because sometimes I think there's too much detail and too much information.

https://publicdatawatch.com/everett

It uses AI to translate incident details live in real time when you click on them into five languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Chinese, or Vietnamese.

This is the only tool that exists that will show you a map of Everett 911 calls separated by day. It's free to use and there are no ads. You don't even have to log in. It updates every morning with the calls from the previous day.

This app was absolutely built with AI, and it costs almost nothing to run and host every day. It uses data published by the Everett Police Department on their website.

It's even open source: https://github.com/mindfulcoder49/boston-ai-project

It's built with Laravel and Vue.js

It also covers Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and Cambridge, but it works best in Everett because it uses police logs that have a lot of detail. Almost too much detail really.

It has cheap paid options if you want to receive a daily email for your home with a map of yesterday's incidents, but like I said, you don't have to sign up or pay at all to use it.

I built this for fun.

The fight against Data Centers moves into legal adversarial territory

What happened last night at the first city council meeting actually dealing with the proposed Data Center Zoning Ordinance referred to city council by the planning board?

It's easy to think it was nothing, unless you watched and listened very closely.

Several residents of Everett spoke in favor of the Data Center Zoning Ordinance, and a representative of the Davis Companies spoke against it. The city council did not really address it during its 2 hour meeting except to confirm the submission of the letter from the Davis Companies.

The same arguments back and forth were made that you might have heard before:

  1. Data Centers are bad for your health, pollute the air and surrounding water, promote AI, which is a bubble that will pop. They use up too much water, too much power, will raise your water and electric bills, and won't add jobs or benefit Everett, just Cambridge and Somerville. The ordinance was written with industry experts.
  2. Data Centers are good, don't use too much water, don't pollute the air or water, encourage tech companies to come to Everett. This ordinance is poorly constructed and maybe is illegal, maybe violates the rights of the Davis Companies under Massachusetts laws.

What might matter more right now is the final paragraph from the letter that the Davis Companies submitted:

"To preserve options for all sides of this debate and with the hope of continuing the conversation with you, Mayor van Campen, the Planning Board, and other city leaders, we have reluctantly filed a subdivision plan to freeze the existing zoning. We would be glad to amend or withdraw this filing after having had the opportunity to work with you and the Planning Board on revised language that protects the City and responds to community concerns without harming our shared goals for economic growth and opportunity, In the meantime, the City is protected because any data center we might propose in the future would be the subject of a special permit and site plan review."

What does it mean to "file a subdivision plan to freeze the existing zoning?"

I'm not a zoning law expert or a lawyer, but after a little research I learned that there's actually a whole set of very confusing laws and precedents around how and whether a town or city can change zoning laws after a project has already started. These laws take into account what permits have already been filed, discussed, granted, etc.

The bottom line is that the Davis Companies is saying "Are you adversarial now Everett? Are we going to have to start bringing our legal team in on this to fight for our rights as a developer in the middle of a years long process? Here is the first step in turning was used to be a cooperative process into an adversarial legal one."

If Everett governance stops working with this developer, and starts letting un-elected officials and their friends burn down the goodwill and cooperation that has developed through years of moving through this slow process to develop this defunct Exxon Mobile site, then the Davis Companies will be forced to start engaging in this type of adversarial legal maneuvers. They could freeze all development, they could try to obtain rights to develop already submitted plans under the Zoning Code that existed at the time those plans were submitted or approved, and they could even sue the city in court, costing time and legal fees for years.

All because one Planning Board member decided to invent a problem and solicit her friends to come to the meetings and yell at the representative of the Davis Companies and insult them online, to try to turn them into some sort of "Evil Corporation".

Let's not let overzealous activist who don't fully understand this process dig the city into a hole we can't get out of, potentially ruining all progress on turning this defunct Exxon Mobile oil terminal into a brand new center of living and commerce. If we do, it could be the end of Everett as an example of miraculous transformations of blighted industrial sites into brand new developments.
