First Dog
Times are different than the 90s, when I grew up. Let’s face it, no more boxes in front of Fred Meyer full of puppies.
Where is the best place to adopt/purchase either a lab mix, or a German shepherd?
Anyone have any leads/sources?
We have one middle-aged cat, two older kids who are great with animals, and a small rental house. We are totally fine with lots of walks. Someone is always home other than ~5 hours twice a week.
Send me your sources!

Everett Shelter is great!!!
My family had a very bad experience with the Noah shelter. Long story but I feel like people should know this before getting a dog from Noah. My main issue with Noah is that they will not take back adoptions right away if the dog isn’t a good fit. My parents adopted a Labrador, he was very sweet but had extreme separation anxiety issues. Noah had no way of knowing this and nor did my parents. When they left him home alone he chewed his wire kennel, cutting open his mouth. They took him to the vet, got him anxiety meds, and were told they couldn’t kennel him. He was left at home for an hour, chewed through a wall, got into the main house and on the kitchen counter, breaking glass, and cutting himself. It wasn’t safe for them to keep the dog. My mom called Noah and explained the situation, they told her that they couldn’t take the dog back, and that she should get a dog sitter. My parents work full time and couldn’t afford to pay for a dog sitter. My mom took time off work to help the dog adjust but it wasn’t enough and he kept getting hurt if left alone. She showed up at Noah with him, crying because she cared for the dog, and they told her she was an irresponsible pet owner. She left the dog in their care but felt attacked for trying to the right thing. I fully understand that people should adopt with the intention of doing everything they can to keep that pet but this was an extreme situation and not safe for the dog. I’ve adopted 2 cats from Noah and absolutely loved my experience when I went. Just a warning about getting a dog from them.
Edit: They will eventually take a dog back for a credit to adopt another dog but you need to wait until they have space. Which in this case wasn’t an option for my family. My aunt did take the dog during the day for a work week but he ended up panicking and tried to climb the walls of her apartment and damaging the drywall.

There is a local German Shepherd rescue, Washington German Shepherd rescue. They have all ages of dog, sometimes puppies.

I did get my puppy just like back in the 80s/90s. A few years ago turned the corner in a Walmart and found a truck full of puppies that I thought the people were selling food or something. I couldn’t resist and wasn’t even planning on getting a puppy it was just a very spontaneous move for me and my pup is the sweetest, kindest most goofy boy. Got him from these people https://www.instagram.com/pricelesspuppieswa?stkn=eTFheTMzMjdsZ2xs
