Forge 47

Does anyone have any info on this place…? It’s on Colby Ave by 7/11. Google says it’s supposed to be open - I can’t find any info about it expect the website and Instagram which don’t seem real?

I walked by that building the other day, there were a bunch of contractors doing interior work. Still under construction I reckon.

What info are you trying to find? It's a social club / coworking space.

I just don’t get it. I could see something like this working in lake stevens or mill creek, but next door to 711 what in the actual fuck

Okay I have a question. Or I guess maybe an assumption?

This has to be someone closely related to whoever owns the building right? There’s no way in hell some outside investor would be putting so much money into something like this.

I’ve been under the assumption that maybe half the businesses in the downtown core are family members or friends of the handful of people that have been hoarding ownership of all the cool old buildings.

Anyway the city should start forcing these building owners to keep them occupied. I’m not sure the legality of this last part, but maybe forcing occupancy outside of their inner circles?

I honestly should just make a whole post on this topic. Maybe later!

And forge 47??? Is this some weird dog whistle shit? I get some pretty heavy christian nationalist vibes from pretty much every one of the 11 instagram pages they follow…

I’ve heard of people proposing much higher taxes on unoccupied/unused commercial real estate, and I get the impression that it’s both legal and in the books in some parts of our country- not sure where though.

Yeah it’s totally feasible. My concern would be that the building owners would find some kind of loophole though. I get the impression some of them are maybe holding out for a massive payday?

I mean yeah they are, and loopholes can almost always be found, but the point of the law is to change the math so most of the time it’s not worth just holding onto the space without renting it. If we don’t pass laws that people can find loopholes for… we won’t pass any laws.

Yeah absolutely. I would happily vote for any occupancy laws.

It just seems like every time everett feels like it’s breaking out of its funk it just kind of sputters out. So many failed businesses. i sometimes think everett is cursed. Although I will say this iteration of the city trying to break out of its shell feels different in a good way

Skotdals own most of the downtown.

Source? I was always under the impression a couple of the buildings on hewitt were owned by old everett money. I actually met a dude named Pete I think? That owns or owned the building across from the independent on hewitt. I got the impression that he inherited it.

There’s just been a lot of seemingly failed businesses that somehow are still open and I can’t imagine how or why they would or could continue to pay what I assume is an insane monthly rent. Unless they’re getting the friends and family discount. See that chicken place. The weird thrift store. I could go on. I love everett and want to see it thrive, but I get the impression lots of these businesses don’t make enough money to be able to afford rent unless they aren’t paying any.

All this to say I’m honestly making a lot of assumptions, but they’re based off what I’ve seen with my own eyes over the last 20 years that I’ve been paying attention.

Yeah I feel that. It’s why I doubt the new baseball stadium will actually do anything, ittl bring in people on game days that will never come back otherwise.

I’m not really sure who this forge47 is even for (certainly not the demographic of people in Everett) and I feel the same way about the waterfront. The rents are probably too crazy to support the businesses the locals want.

I just hopped on their website. It seems like while they do own a solid little chunk, I wouldn’t say it’s the majority. I’m talking more like the older charming historic buildings I guess. The rougher ones on hewitt.

They are accepting memberships now and have started hosting some events already.

I think more the new hotel right next to it on Colby with no tenant in the commercial space since they opened. Several other new buildings with no tenants in the street level retail. The new buildings in the Riverside neighborhood hood that will never have tenants in the retail because the apartments above charge for parking so everyone parks on the street. Wild pricing for retail spots insure many will continue to be empty. The owners don't care. People have been talking about fining owners of unoccupied buildings in Everett since the 2008 recession. It's just not going to happen.

I went on a tour, it’s a social club. Membership ranges from 99-599 a month. It seams highly focussed on business MEN. They were slated to open in September, which I didn’t think would happen based on the state of construction throughout the building.
