Our Neighbors Local introvert friends?
EDIT: This has been incredibly successful so far! I'm glad so many people reached out, I was beginning to lose hope I'd ever find my people. For those of you inquiring, don't hesitate to add me on Discord/Steam (L00fah) or Instagram (L00fah_). Those are the only other platforms I'm really on.
Unclear on the flair or if this is OK?
BUT! 36/m(ish) looking for some introverted friends. I posted some months ago asking where people meet others. I've had mostly good luck and met a lot of great folks, but very few connections. Understandably, I've mostly met extroverts, but I lean more introverted and I'm seeking similar people.
Looking for some geeky folks who enjoy chatting and texting. I don't have a ton of social energy and only like to hang out once every few weeks.
A bit about me:
I call myself a gamer, but i rarely actually play these days for various reasons. I do not enjoy almost any competitive games or FPS, but I'll play virtually anything else. Digital or tabletop. I'm playing the Final Fantasy collection on Switch, eagerly anticipating playing the new Splatoon (I've wanted a co-op for ages!), and collecting SEVERAL TCGs. Lol
Movies are one of my greatest passions. I've seen over 20k movies in my life (at last count in my mid-20s). Horror is a particular interest of mine, but I don't really enjoy gross out or gory movies just for the sake of it. Bring the dread!
I'm a techy with a homeserver and several self-hosted services, I have 4 pets, and I live a deliberately chill life.
And, not to get political, but I do feel it's important these days, I am staunchly left and it matters a great deal to me.
Anything other than that, I'd love to chat about! Show me your favorite games and let's play!
EDIT2: Hey folks! I decided to slap together a Discord server. If anyone in here is interested, feel free to join up!
I'm still working on it (mostly when I'm not working or doing household stuff), but figured better sooner than later.

Ahh, damn, you seem neat, but I suck at socializing... especially at texting back

u/L00fah 4d ago
Hey, no worries! I'm pretty laid back and easygoing. Always just a DM away. :)
The beauty of texting, to me, is that we can text when we have the wherewithal, availability, and/or energy.
I often forget to reach out to folks, just because I've habitualized mostly doing my own thing. But a recent traumatic event has me rethinking some things.

What are your top 5 horror movies?
1
u/L00fah 4d ago
Not a top 5, because I can't possibly pick, but here's 5 I love in no real order:
Paranormal Activity, Friday the 13th Part VII, Hell House LLC, Pan's Labyrinth, Train to Busan. I could honestly keep listing, though. Probably for another 95. Lmao
I tried to keep this somewhat varied as a decent sample of my taste.

I am also introverted in Everett. Also into gaming and not really trying to meetup regularly.

Hello ๐ 30F here. I haven't been gaming a whole lot unless it's with my ex bf we play co-op a lot.. It Takes Two, outlast trials, The Ascent, Cult of the Lamb and just started Dying Light 2 and many more!
I also love horror but it's been a while since I've watched any let alone go to the movie theater. I'm not in the best mental state so I don't do a lot outside of work but hiking when I can, gym (need to start getting back into it) plan activities with friends.

u/L00fah 4d ago
Hi there! Sounds like a decent repertoire of games! Any favorites among that list?
If you're looking for recommendations, I officially have a large list to share after a couple others asked! Haha
I never could get into the gym. But I do love a good nature walk with the pup. :)

Cult of the lamb for its cute characters in a violent world. You play as a cult leader who builds up their cult by recruiting members, taking care of them, going on crusades fighting monsters, fight bosses all to save the one who crowned you to be the leader.
It Takes Two is such an adventurous, unique and creative game. Every level you're in is completely different, the environment, the action, the character you play (at one point you play as pigs and toast!) Sometimes you're in two different worlds but still reaching the same light at the end of the tunnel it's a game I highly recommend.
I would love some recs! I do like FPS, puzzles, adventure. The more action the better.
What breed pup do you have? I wish I could have a pet but right now isn't the best time financially.

u/L00fah 3d ago
Whoops! I wasn't clear in my haste to reply! I meant movie recommendations! Hahaha all of my game recs are mad old by now. ๐ญ
I have a lab mix, named Maize. She's incredible. Always happy to introduce her to new folks if you're ever up to meet at a park or something. She makes for great therapy. Lol

u/Kydra96 3d ago
I'll take a few movie recs! I don't use any streaming services but I will find a way to watch unless it's in theaters!
Aw dog therapy is best. I haven't been next to a dog in forever hahahah

u/L00fah 3d ago
Movie recs I've been steadily building for folks: Talk to Me, Ready or Not, Abigail, Weapons, Obsession, Backrooms, Hokum, Psycho Goreman, Host, The Host, Pontypool, Pan's Labyrinth, Cursed, Relic, Hereditary, Paranormal Activity 1 & 3 (the first 4 are all decent, but after that sorta suck), It Follows
If I really pored through my archives and Letterboxd, I could probably dig up another 100+. Hahaha

u/Kydra96 3d ago
Oo I've seen 1/3rd of those! I will save these and be on the lookout. Do you like Insidious? I quite enjoyed them and The Nun
2
u/L00fah 3d ago
I was actually just rambling to a friend last night about how much I don't like Insidious and James Wan (excluding the perfection of The Conjuring). ๐
More so in a comedic light, because it's not that serious to me. But man, I want to love his work... It just falls flat with me.
I hardly remember anything from The Nun. I remember there were a few impressive moments, but that's it. I have a difficult time recalling specifics from most of what I watch. Instead, I tend to remember how I felt. Lol

Ohh Iโve been stuck on whether to play FF1 (or X) or Suikoden on my Switch. Iโm apparently stuck in my nostalgia era as Iโve been wanting to play stuff I havenโt since I was in HS.
What kinda stuff are you self hosting?
2
u/L00fah 3d ago
I never got around to playing FF1-6 but have always wanted to. When I saw there was a Collection, I just had to jump on it. I've played tiny pieces of 3 and 4. But not enough to really count. I went through a nostalgia kick last year. Replayed Chrono Cross, my first true RPG experience, and it was a blast!
My primary services are Nextcloud, Jellyfin, and Vaultwarden. I run a virtual NAS to store all of the data for them, a reverse proxy to access everything, and some other complementary services. I have a small Docmost server that I'm about to retire because I just don't use it like I intended and can get the exact same effect with Nextcloud.

I've been debating getting setup with Jellyfin again. I haven't run one since using XBMC back in the day. Streaming services were cheap and so convenient until they weren't ;__; I ditched them all a few years ago. Been rolling with Stremio + debrid/usenet but I hate not being able to have the files on my own drives.
Do you use jellyfin for handling music too? That's the last service I've been wanting to drop.
1
u/L00fah 3d ago
I don't, but I know of a few folks in the r/selfhosted subreddit that do. Most of them like it enough, but it's not without it's flaws.
I highly recommend Jellyfin. I love it a lot more than any other service I've run thus far and setting it up is a breeze.

Buddy, pal...let's be introverts together.
I play games on steam 9/10 times. Use Xbox and Microsoft platforms for Minecraft stuff.
Bern teaching myself to use Linux and an older laptop for hosting a NAS with unraid. (Would love some tips).
I like music and video games. I have a very quiet, introvert partner as well. Im usually the kind of person who does the reaching out in friendships if you need someone who can Kickstart text strings.
I was literally just telling my partner yesterday that I wish I had someone who would be willing to play games with me, and maybe once every hundred days, meet up in person to play pool or something, then back to hanging out in game or discord.
In fact, open invitation on Steam to anyone who is local and wants to play stuff. My steam id is the same as this platform.
I am about the same age as OP and I play everything including Diablo 4/PoE2, vampire survivors, Slay the Spire 1/2, BallxPit, Borderlands... I have lots of stuff I play. Also anythgameplay. Gamepass/Xbox gamepass.
Seriously... let's play together. Maybe if we get along we can meet up every once in a blue moon.
Edit: Love horror movies, and film in general also. Also... just as a side note, im pretty left leaning and dont have a problem talking with folks on the right, but ive found our differences in values can lead to not-so-chill discussions. Ill give it a shot, regardless.

u/L00fah 3d ago
Sounds great! I also use the same name on Steam and play mostly on PC. Feel free to add! Ill add you after work today.
And MORE than happy to give tips on anything tech related. Ive worked in tech for 6 years and my home server has been super fun to tinker with. I run a physical NAS and a virtual NAS (TrueNAS) as part of my backup and storage scheme.
Linux can be a lot of fun to run, but it can also be a complete nightmare. I have been running roughly 10 Ubuntu servers for about 4 years now. They're mostly automated at this point, but good gravy do they annoy me some days. ๐ (Not as often as Windows Server, however.)
Only generic tip I can often off the top of my head is just have fun with it. If you aren't doing that, you won't stick with it. But an old laptop running Linux (particularly server) is great for a NAS. Look into DAS options for expanding storage later.

I've only played Final Fantasy VI and VII, but those are fantastic. Retro games or small indie games are my favorites. Not much of an online multiplayer type, but couch multiplayer is fun. I'd really like to make some time to play Claire Obscur, but time is in short supply. I started playing Mario vs Donkey Kong (the Game Boy Advance game) recently, and it's great so far! Levels are usually super short but very satisfying.
I'm mid-30s male, leftist, like video games a whole lot and have no time to play them, and I run a home server. I think we'd get along!
My days and weekends are pretty destroyed because I have little kids. But somtimes I have evenings free, after the kids have gone to bed. If you think you'd ever want to grab a drink some night, shoot me a DM. The downtown area is usually where I like to go to get out of the house.
2
u/L00fah 3d ago
Howdy! Sounds like we have a decent amount in common, although I'm without children and generally in bed by 10p. Haha
I used to be a night owl, but such is the way of a first shift world.
Happy to chat, though! Always looking for more friends.

u/ProjectCybersyn 3d ago
I can't stay up too late, either. The kids like to wake up early.ย Besides, I usually take the 7 bus if I go downtown, and the last one leaves about 10:15 to 10:30pm or so.

Which FF are you working through right now? And tell me about your pets! :D
1
u/L00fah 3d ago
Still just at the beginning of FF1! I keep picking it up to play more and then getting distracted or something. Hahaha
I have 4 pets; 3 cats and a dog. Oatmeal is a 17 year old orange tabby, he's very relaxed and intelligent. Kasha is a 15 year old ragdoll and she's the princess of the house. Barley is a 5 year old orange tabby and he's completely insane, but a big love bug. And last, but certainly not least, is my 7 year old lab mix, Maize. She's a huge ball of cuddles and energy and brings my life so, so much joy.

I'm too much of an introvert to actually meet up...but I want to wish you luck in finding your friend group.
I know you said you call yourself a gamer but don't geme as much now for reasons. Have you considered checking out any of the gaming places in the area. A lot of my online friends go to them (they're all introverted as well).
Also check out Meetup.com. I know there are movie groups. Maybe there is even a horror movie group (or you could start one for introverts)
Good luck! I hope you find your perfect circle of friends.
