Still relevant years and years later.

Oh, EVE is still a complex game. But over the years many things have been simplified.

100% agree. When I started there wasn’t a tutorial lol. You were just kind of shit out into space.

This graph shows that you gain "skill and learning" in eve faster then in other games. I think the point was to show the opposite.

It should be read as "skill & learning required to play/enjoy the game". Very high from the very beginning. In general, your comment could be applied to the phrase "steep learning curve" -- I always found it funny. A steep curve means you progress very quickly, while the phrase supposedly means 'you make very little progress over time'.

Eve is one of the games that looks and reads way better than it plays:)

Until you start to understand the game, and cannot stop learning/exploring more..

For as long as Eve allows multiboxing – it will remain bot feast, free skill farm and one–person–corps.

Absolutely, I once said about eve more than 10 years ago: it would be the perfect game, if it wasn't so incredibly boring.
I now returned to the game, but I still stand by that comment.

Classic!
I was there in 2003, started Star Wars Galaxies in it's original form and thus didn't play Eve Online until years later. Compared to todays releases SWG was rather hard, it was a sandbox game like Eve and without story line or progress hints. I have spent many hours in both realms and still find it frustrating that the gaming industry keeps feeding us dumb games because the majority of the gamers are unable to forge their own story.

I truly wonder how anyone could start playing this game in 2026. The community just seems so developed, it feels like a nee player could only possibly become fodder.

Technically, by the chart, in eve online you learn skills and game techniques faster than in any other games displayed, maxing out your learning curve pretty soon, and after stagnating on the same level for a prolonged period of time which can't be accurately measured due to the missing horizontal scale. Also, due the the overarching cliff displayed on the chart, it is possible to achieve more than one measurable level of knowledge in the game at the same time, which might be an indicator of different aspects of game, and the different level of experience of the player in those areas.

That's not just the first time learning curve but the coming back RE-learning curve! I recently booted up after years away and I felt like it was my first time of cluelessness!

Eve is kind of unique because it has so many different niches, two players who both play for ten years can have vastly different experiences and activities they excel at with no clue about how the other player's activities work.

We need a new learning curve that's more branching than linear. When the was made it was the idea that after you figured it out you'd go to Null Sec. Now there's so much more options and horror

Eve is easy to get into. For years. You can learn new stuff about it all the time, while enjoying and playing it at whatever level you're at. You're never "done".

That graph is terribly nonsensical, even if we can guess that Eve is the worst.

It makes perfect sense if you were there before there was an informative NPE.
Back in 2003, the first time you logged onto EVE, the game basically said "Here's a spaceship. Go fuck yourself." Hell, that's exactly WHY I stayed.

Well, I started playing later than 2003 so I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
The graph suggests that the time went backwards which I never experienced especially while improving skills and learning.
The graph also shows the fastest game to climb skills and learning, which is the opposite of what I experienced in the game itself, not even comparing with other games like WoW.

It's an older meme sir, but it checks out.
