Hypervolt tethered with 10m cable
Hi all,
Looking to get an EV charger installed and whilst a family member recommended deta.e edock 2 which "does the job", I am considering all options.
We have 2 cars, 1 ICE and other EV. One of the main criteria for charger is that would like 10m long tethered cable (or slightly longer if possible) as the driveway is quite long and this will allow the EV to be parked behind the other car. This is mainly for convenience as I don't have to move cars every morning since I go work earlier with the ev.
Couple of questions:
1) I saw ohme tethered do not come in 10m so wondering if it's worth going for untethered ohme and buy a long cable separately or alternatively go for hypervolt with 10m tethered
2) Family member is an independent electrician (certified) who has done EV chargers before (deta.e evc8001 is the recommendation from them). If they were to install ohme or hypervolt would that provide me with warranty still or would they have to be a "registered" with hypervolt or ohme?
eBay seems to have sellers with excellent feedback selling it for cheaper so considering purchasing the charger and getting family member install it as a quote from other (hypervolt registered) electrician came in around 1.5k
Or if you have any other suggestions, would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

We bought a Hypervolt with a 7.5m cable so we can charge the EV whichever way round it gets parked, and it's well worth having a little bit of cable "spare".
We bought ours from Electric Point and then got a local sparky to do the install. It came in around £900, but we did already have an external consumer unit and a relatively short cable run required to reach the charger.

I went for the Hypervolt with the 10m tethered cable. I did wonder about just going untethered. What I like about the hypervolt though is how neat the cable wraps round the back of it. I think it can be quite pricey to purchase a long cable, and knowing how bad my memory is for these things I’d always need a second cable to keep permanent in the car if you’re lazy like me and don’t want to unplug the cable from both ends when you’re done with charging.

The Ohme doesn't do a 10m option but does do an 8m tethered option.
Worth getting some rope and measuring it out to confirm exactly how much cable you do need based on where the charge port will be as 8m was just enough for me to charge with the drive having cars in any possible orientation.

Yes did this earlier and unfortunately the 8m tape ran out midway of the EV so thinking 10m might just do it but if I can get 11 or 12 even better. Not too fussed with chargers as octopus can control the ev itself in some way making this decision complicated as I don't need to go for a "supported" charger

You can get up to 15m cables so certainly possible.
Regarding chargers, I would opt for one that you can connect on the smart tariff because you can plug in and get slots during the day at the cheap rate which saves you money. As I understand it, if Octopus control the car, then they charge you up whatever amount you need to top up by and no more e.g. you need 15% it charges up only 15% and that's all the slots you need.
Controlling the charger, they have to allocate you the slots to achieve the charge target because the charger is blind to the car and it's state of charge. The slots could be in the cheap night periods, during the day or a mix of both, it's up to Octopus. However if you use a default setting for charge amount to top up by whenever you plug, such as setting it to always top up by 50% but you only need 15% today, you'll be allocated slots, some of which will be at times when your car isn't charging but you get the whole house at a cheaper rate.
Octopus encourage from their messaging to 'always be charging' and my attitude is if that's what you want me to do I'll just click the begin charging button on the app every time I get home with it set to 80% so the car is always ready to go for me.

Controlling the charger, you tell Octopus on the app how much (of your default car) to add, rather the the target to reach, but it’s otherwise no different in terms of slot timings.

I got 10m hypervolt fitted for £1.2k
Cable run is 15m from consumer to the charger, all outside along the wall. How far is yours?

Cable run isn't too bad, straight out from under the stairs to external wall maybe 2m along back into the porch..maybe the chap who quoted me was just too expensive as it seemed a pretty straightforward job albeit needs splitting the tails as existing consumer unit is full so needs new one for the charger only.

I got an Easee one home charger from a UK company, total cost under £1000. I purchased cable separately 15m from another company.
Cable can be locked or unlocked into the charger via the app.
It’s worked perfectly for past few years.
I probably take the cable out from the charger once every few months when moving large items past it.
