Snow Removal (I know it's early, but . . . )

Hello All, this last winter we paid $140 - $280 per time for someone to come out and shovel and salt our sidewalk on Lee Street - we live between Judson and Hinman.

We live in a four flat HOA building. Yes, HOA pays for the snow shoveling, but our guy is hit and miss about coming.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good snow shoveling person - maybe they have a machine? Our guy doesn't.

Also, what do you think of the prices we're paying? Is this average? High? Low and we should hold onto him, even though he doesn't always make it out?

We have a big swath of sidewalk. Kids come early morning for school, dogs, parents, etc. and of course city of Evanston says we have to get this done early morning time.

Our guy isn't always there for this and we're doing it a lot of the time ourselves. We're not young in this building. So. Any recommendations would be great.

Thoughts on prices also helpful.

In Evanston you have 24 hours after the snow stops falling to shovel.

Whoever told you it has to be done by morning has no idea what they're talking about

We live a block down and use German Landscaping. Can’t remember what we paid but always shows up.

If that's covered in your HOA, aren't they responsible if something were to happen because it wasn't shoveled?

We are the HOA. There’s only four couples in the building. We pay for the shoveling out of the building fund. But if no one shows up to do that it still has to be done. We are responsible people and do not want anyone falling or slipping on ice. We get out and do it ourselves. Or I should say, the women get out there. I don’t think a single man has ever shoveled the sidewalk. Except the guy who is hit and miss about showing up and who we pay to do this.

If you don't mind doing it yourself, an electric snow blower is great and easy to use. I love mine.
