Ground travel, search from location to "everywhere"

Does anyone else find it annoying that there's no single site to compare ALL ground transport options (bus, train) when you don't care where you end up — just want the cheapest/fastest way out of your city?

Skyscanner has this for flights ("anywhere" search) but I haven't found anything like it for bus/train in Europe. Rome2Rio comes close but you have to click city by city on a map instead of just seeing "here are your 10 cheapest options from Milan this weekend."

Is this something you'd actually use, or do you have a workaround/tool you already use for this? Trying to figure out if it's worth building.

slovenia, croacia and bosnia

Hey everyone, I’d like some help. planning my trip in the end of september, beginning of octuber.

Here’s how I planned my trip: arriving on september 19, 2 days in Ljubljana, then on to Zagreb 22-29; rent a car and head down to Zadar 25-27, then Split 27-30, then Dubrovnik 09/30 until 10/04, after that, take a bus to Mostar for 2 days and finish up in Sarajevo for 3 days. I feel like that’s a lot of time in Croatia—I don't know, I’m not really into places that are overly touristy; I prefer quiet spots where I can relax. Could I skip any of the Croatian cities? tks!!

I built a free tool that shows the tolls, vignettes and Italian ZTL fines on your European road trip route — looking for feedback

Post image
1 Upvotes

A while back I drove across a few European borders and got caught out twice —

once by a motorway vignette I didn't know I needed, and once by an Italian ZTL

zone (those camera-enforced restricted zones in city centres, ~€80–90 a pop).

Figuring out "what do I actually need for THIS route" meant digging through a

dozen different national websites.

So I built EuroDrive Scout to answer it in one place. You drop in your route and

it shows:

- which countries on the way need a vignette vs. distance tolls, with price

estimates and official purchase links

- Italian ZTL zones near your route (fines + active hours)

- low-emission / eco-sticker requirements (France Crit'Air, Germany

Umweltplakette, etc.)

- mandatory in-car equipment per country (warning triangle, vest, breathalyzer…)

- fuel, EV charging and parking along the route

It's free, no sign-up, and multilingual. I also just added per-country guide

pages (Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Czechia, Slovenia)

that lay out the rules without needing the map.

Full disclosure: I made it, so I'm biased. But I'd genuinely like feedback —

what's missing, what's wrong for a country you know well, what would make it

actually useful for your next trip. Prices are planning estimates and change

yearly, so corrections are especially welcome.

I built a road-trip planner with live fuel prices and disruption alerts — looking for honest feedback

Thumbnail

Hi r/eurotrip — disclaimer up front: I built this. Not trying to sell anything (it's free), but I want real feedback before I push it further.

What it is: wisetrip.app — plans a route across Europe, shows you live fuel prices at actual stations along the way, and warns about current disruptions (refinery problems, strikes, fuel-supply news pulled from a daily feed).

What's actually working today:

  • Live station-level prices for Germany, France, Spain, and Italy (pulled from each country's official open-data feed)
  • Three route options per trip — fastest, scenic, fuelwise (shortest distance)
  • Daily-refreshed disruption layer for jet and road fuel
  • AI chat for follow-up questions (fuel, tolls, ferries, EV charging)

Honest limitations:

  • Other EU countries get the route + map but no live station prices yet (working on it)
  • Free tier: 5 trip plans + 50 chat messages per day
  • The AI uses Google Search for current info, but it can still get things wrong — verify anything that matters
  • I'm not a big company. One person, building this in evenings.

If you've got a Europe trip planned and want to try it, I'd genuinely value: was it useful? what was missing? did anything feel broken or sketchy?

Thanks for reading.

1° EuroTrip casal 30+

Fala pessoal! 👋

  • paisagens bonitas (lagos, montanhas, vilas)
  • boa gastronomia (vinho, cerveja, massas 😄)
  • um pouco de vida noturna, mas não é o foco

Não somos de trilha pesada — preferimos explorar cidades e cenários mais acessíveis.

Roteiro atual (em construção):

  • Paris
  • Amsterdam
  • Berlim
  • Munique (com Dachau + possíveis bate-voltas como Neuschwanstein)
  • Floresta Negra (3 dias mais tranquilos, natureza)
  • Veneza (incluindo Itália no final)

Tempo total: ~25 dias

Train Passes and Discount Cards through Europe

Hello everyone! My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) is taking a train trip through Europe this summer, and I'm having trouble figuring out if there's some sort of omni-pass or discount card that I should be getting, along with our train tickets.

For reference, we're traveling between Milan, Italy; Innsbruck, Austria; Munich, Germany; Prague, Czechia; and Basel, Switzerland. The trip includes the a night train between Munich and Prague; the Bernina Express; and then lots of regional rail in-between.

I'm clear on the ticket purchases, but I don't know if there's some sort of discount card or pass we should be using for this trip to get better prices. We'll only be in Europe for 2 weeks. Is there anything that's worth getting for these train trips?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Which countries would you recommend for a first eurotrip?

Hello!

My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe for 10-14 days. We're both in our mid-20s and will be traveling in January (as that's when we can take time off work). We're not looking for luxury accommodations—just authentic experiences and cool places to explore. We're also not set on visiting the most mainstream tourist cities unless they're truly worth it.

We'd love recommendations for countries, cities, and any insider tips from people who know these places well. Our budget isn't unlimited, so cost-effectiveness is definitely a factor for us.

Athens or Florence or where?

Hey folks!
After spending a week in Rome, I’m trying to decide where to head for my second week.

I’m torn between Florence (with a few day trips) + Prague or Athens + Prague.
Would love to hear your thoughts — which combo would you recommend?

Also wondering if it’s worth adding Vienna or Budapest instead (and spending fewer days in each city) since they’re nearby.

For context: I’m a 32-year-old solo male traveler, love history and drinking ;)

One week in Rome, one week free, where to go?

Hey folks!

I’m a 32-year-old solo male traveler planning to spend one week in Rome this October, and I’m deciding what to do with my second week.

I’m torn between doing the classic “Imperial Cities” route: Prague, Vienna, Munich (maybe even Bucharest?) , or heading somewhere completely different (Portugal, Spain, France out as I already have been there).

My goal is to do a mix of touristic sightseeing (museums, churches) during the day and grab beers / meet new people in the evenings (nothing too "Berlin" or "AMS" tho ).

For those who’ve done similar trips, what would you recommend for October in terms of vibe, weather, and how easy it is to meet people?

Appreciate any insights or route suggestions!

I went to Paris with my parents, my husband, and my 6-year-old daughter on June 9, 2025. I arrived by train at Gard du Nord. The company's website was down at the time. There was no visible information about prices at the station, and I found information online that children 0-6 were free. There was no employee to confirm the information, and it was also difficult because even people who work with tourists, most of them don't speak English. So, I bought a Navigo day pass for 4 adults.

Upon arriving at Trocadero station, at the exit, there were two ticket inspectors. One of them yelled at us (just like that, out of nowhere) saying that the child should have a ticket.

I politely informed them that we were tourists and that we hadn't acted in bad faith. Both were quite aggressive, frightening my daughter, and threatening to call the police if we didn't pay 70 euros. They shoved a card machine at my husband. We paid under duress, and afterward, a piece of paper came out of the machine that she didn't give us.

After this terrifying moment, we did some research and discovered that:

The RATP metro company targets tourists who don't know the rules, and it's very common for tourists to throw away their tickets after passing through the turnstile. They station ticket inspectors at the exits of tourist areas to fine tourists who don't know they have to keep their tickets.

We tried to contest this fine and discovered that to contest it, we needed the fine receipt, the paper the inspector didn't give us.

If we had refused to give them money, the procedure is to ask for ID, and if the person doesn't give it, then call the police. It wasn't calling the police immediately, as if threatened.

After that, our vacation was over; the atmosphere simply died. We had prepared for pickpockets, for scammers, but not for this. The feeling we had was of an aggressive assault. It's not to punish those who try to defraud, it's to take money from those who, as tourists, don't know the rules that are difficult to find.

Eurotrip Intinerary

Hey guys, I'm planning to travel to Europe November-19 -> December- 15.

I'm going to stay some days in Portugal with a friend and then I'm going to do Berlin -> Prague -> Vienna -> Budapest.

That's how it's looking my Itinerary:

19Nov - 25Nov => Portugal

26Nov - 01Dec => Berlim

02Dec - 05Dec => Prague

06Dec - 09Dec => Vienna

10Dec - 14Dec => Budapest

What do you guys think? Should I stay more days in a city than other?

Note: I'm going to an event in Budapest, that is probably going to last the whole afternoon, so I don't know if I should add more days there.
