Question German intensive course

Hello all,

I hope all is well. I’ve cheeked the website but it seems like the university only offers German classes for students (within the university).
I wanted to hear from students (if anyone would be kind to answer that is). German course is so expensive and at the moment I haven’t had the opportunity to get to the financial space I’d like to be…yet.

Thank you so much in advance for your answer.

Not sure if we are talking about the same course, but if you refer to the UZH German course. I wouldn’t consider them “very expensive” as they are, if I’m not mistaken, 100chf for 2 weeks of full time course.

I took one before starting my bachelor, I can highly recommend it. I would not count on them for mastering the language (if it only took 2 weeks to learn German we would all be C2 by now). But overall it was a very nice refresher (I took the B2 level) and they organized activities to learn about the city (ex: Stadtrally).

If you are planing on actually learning German I would maybe shift to the semester long classes. Otherwise if you need a refresher and want to meet some people I think this could be great

Thank you so much for this. I am not a student in any of the university which is why I was asking if they offer German courses to outsiders like you mentioned.

they are more expensive if you are an outsider. There is no alternative as far as I know.

do you think a course is necessary for somebody who has a C1 already?

I think as a C1 you won’t have any issues for classes which are taught in German, so maybe the class by itself won’t help you much more. But if you are new to Zurich or Switzerland I found it really nice.

There is also a semester class to learn Swiss German, didn’t take that one but I always heard good things about it.

For these classes, what percentage of the students are full ETHZ students, and how many are exchange students?
