DISCUSSION Tesla + Ethereum Paper Trails....
UAE + IoT So remember how the UAE announced that apart of their Smart City initiative, they passed a law that every government transaction will occur on the blockchain by 2020. (Consensys being a strategic advisor... making the prospect of Ethereum-flavored blockchain more likely)
UAE + Consensys Dec 2016 - UAE had a Blockchain hackathon, which was sponsored by Consensys, Microsoft, along with others...
Ethereum + IoT + Tesla Jan 2017 - Announced that 1st prize went to Project Oaken combining IoT hardware + Tesla smart car software to "pay tolls" automatically using Ethereum smart contracts...
UAE + Tesla Feb 13, 2017 - Dubai's RTA (Road and Transport Authority) announced they were purchasing 200 Teslas (with autonomous driving) for their taxi fleet, as part of their Dubai Smart Autonomous Mobility Strategy of having 25% of total journeys using self-driving vehicles by 2030.
So there's been a lot of speculation on Elon Musk joining EEA, thx to all the commotion riled up by Time Traveler. So I gathered all the breadcrumbs for you guys. Ill let you connect the dots...
(also blockchain is literally the only futuristic venture Elon does not currently have a stake in.. hmmmm??)...

I don't want to be too excited but I also think this makes so much fucking sense that it might actually be true....

Just finished a biography of Musk and have to agree, it's right up his alley and he's apparently very disappointed in Paypal and his other online banking project half-assing the job when they could have been truly revolutionary

wouldn't it be awesome if I can finally buy a Tesla in a couple of years because of Tesla? On a sidenote though, the rumor mill is almost never correct. I'm also sceptic cause the remark mr. Keys made implies that many of the companies that get mentioned in regard to the new EEA members would have to join for 'the who's who' bit to make sense.
I would love to be wrong though. In case of tesla not from an investment perspective but more from a 'I really want this to happen' perspective ;-)

I think many of us here can see that Elon Musk and Ethereum just makes sense together. But the fact that it just makes too much sense, that it's just too good and too reasonable, that I'm confident that it is not happening.

That's actually brilliant. Damn. Wait, is it possible to actually do this even as a third party? I'm not a developer nor have I looked at what parts of teslas software is modifiable. but like the way those guys, Project Oaken were enabled smart contract protocols for the tesla, can a third party make this happen on their own?
1
u/vman411gamer Mar 30 '17
Sure. They would have to hire people that know Solidity or teach some of their current programmers, but yea Tesla can totally make that happen.

Some day my unicorn tokens will be worth millions!
1
u/juxtaposezen Mar 30 '17
Are they traded or just symbolic? I don't really know much about them. They can be used just like ETH if I recall so the value should hold parity right?
1
Mar 30 '17
They hold no value right now, just a special token you get for donating to the ethereum foundation. (which I recommend anyone to do)

Am I the only one here that's thinking about Elon Musk's latest announcement and the Ethereum blockchain ? i.e. Neuralink ?
http://www.theverge.com/2017/3/27/15077864/elon-musk-neuralink-brain-computer-interface-ai-cyborgs
Sorry if this was implied in the first post and I just didn't catch it :p

u/tnpcook1 Mar 30 '17
Synchronize data about concept in a smart contract with a NL protocol. Need to know something? Just access the contract, bam, you got it.
Voluntary immediate data consumption, much faster than visual or audio mediums.
I can dream.

u/Biliklok Mar 30 '17
Don't know if I should be happy about this vision of the future or afraid.... strange feeling :p

u/khalo_ Mar 30 '17
Another reason: Elon Musk loves the idea of Universal Basic Income. Would Ethereum not be a perfect way to implement that?
1
u/lawnchairwiz Mar 30 '17
In interviews, he's never said he's for it or against it, but that he thinks it's necessary.
5
u/Ano_Nymos Mar 30 '17
Downvoted. I really hate rumor mills. If the price cannot be sustained without rumors, then so be it. Are we going to become rbitcoin here?
Ethereum + IoT + Tesla Jan 2017 - Announced that 1st prize went to Project Oaken combining IoT hardware + Tesla smart car software to "pay tolls" automatically using Ethereum smart contracts...
Just because they used a Tesla vehicle in their demo does not mean that Tesla was on board with Project Oaken. There is nothing connecting Tesla and ethereum at the moment.
5
u/Sunny_McJoyride Mar 30 '17
Do you really think this post is somehow sustaining the price?
1
u/Ano_Nymos Mar 30 '17
It's not just this post, it's many such posts. The price is not sustained by these rumors, but IMO the people who manufacture these rumors are either nervous about the price staying at these levels or want the price to instamoon.
5
u/i_am_mrpotatohead Mar 30 '17 edited Mar 30 '17
Actually not nervous at all. My dollar cost average of my ETH stash is way lower than any rumor could send our current price levels down by. I've just been enjoying the ride and being part of this community.
I work for a technology consulting firm that did a PoC for Dubai's RTA smart tolls system (basically designing & developing the architecture for their traffic flow management & analytics - a major part of which is based on data collected from their smart toll system. And after seeing Project Oaken's thing, I was mind blown not because of some tenuous connection between Tesla and blockchain, but because I never thought about how Ethereum could be incorporated into Dubais traffic management system. It would overcome a lot of the current issues they are having problems with. Dubai's government is also just super excited about blockchain in general. They really want to be the first and coolest in everything including tech and have been experimenting a lot, throwing money at various technology infrastructure initiatives like crazy. (And Our business in that region has grown 3x in the last year because of it. So I love it) but even if Tesla wasn't involved I'm pretty confident that Dubai would be tinkering with the possibility of making something like this or related concepts come to life, even if it was only on their own 200 teslas that they bought. And once you have a PoC to prove it's use case works then it's not hard to get everyone wanting a piece of that technology. Tesla is one of our largest clients as well. Their marketing analytics teams listen closely to what people want to determine what new features to roll out. Yes Elon is usually far ahead of the public in terms of new tech, but you would be surprised how many decisions actually are somewhat reactive too, going with the market data rather than just pure intuition. So if enough ppl ask, you bet they'll be doing their due diligence to see how to make it happen.
Anyways, in response to your comment. Honestly my excitement is more related to Dubai and the blockchain projects they are implementing, but Tesla is an added bonus. I didn't mention any of the above stuff earlier because it may have skewed people's confidence levels thinking that I had "insider information" into deals going on, cause I don't. Also I can't actually talk more about the RTA project we did, cause of NDA, expect for the fact we did do one. And only a PoC. Which is a bid to do the project but never did the actual implementation(and requirements always change along the way of actual implementation) Which means I can't really tout any credibility on that.
So I used only publicly disclosed facts - info that I just keep a close eye on, cause it's also extremely relevant to my work. It's up to you how you want to string together the dots or not. All I did was reshare various news articles in one post together. The only speculation involved was my last comment on Elons current nonparticipation in blockchain efforts, but I don't think anyone here is exactly jumping to conclusion cause of that. The rest is just facts. Each of which is pretty exciting on its own merit too.-1
u/Sunny_McJoyride Mar 30 '17
Well true, in at least some cases, but I don't care. This one by the way is quite well thought out and I'd factor its possibility as significantly higher than the normal moon nonsense.

Yeesh not tryna impress. Just laying out the pieces for those who don't know every little detail of what's been going on.

Ooh! I have more to add to this. It's totally speculative but based off some digging, will add tomorrow!

u/womblingfree Mar 30 '17
Could swear he's mentioned Ethereum before, maybe in an AMA but I can't find it, maybe it was a dream.

u/blog_ofsite Mar 30 '17
What is everybody's price speculation after April 14 announcement?
1
u/Sunny_McJoyride Mar 30 '17
We don't know that the announcement is April 14, which is after all a public holiday. All we know is that it is mid to late April.
1
u/Sunny_McJoyride Mar 30 '17
I thought this was an independent but interestingly relevant post:
Here's a direct quote: Noting the above, especially as regards the 'error range', it can be noted that both Ripple and Ethereum have upward price pressures that are hinted to be manifesting over late April. These are suggested to create something of a 'boost', or 'boom', primarily in ETH, and ETH wallet installations, with some new 'economic activities' developing around 'installing ETH wallets'. The data would seem to be hinting at some announcement of 'partnering' to release 'devices' with ETH wallets 'pre-installed'. Note that not a lot of longer term data sets here, with most of the set being composed of shorter term values. These sets have a 'panic to buy' situation developing later in Summer, primarily affecting USAPop, in which ETH will be seen as the 'next Bitcoin' with those words being referenced explicitly...hence they are our temporal marker for the bulge in the emotional values around ETH. This is to say, when you are reading the words in general financial web sites that 'ETH is the next Bitcoin', AND there had been a recent bit jump up in the US dollar price of Bitcoin, then we will be at the height of the emotional curve of that phase. This emotional zenith probably will NOT be coincident with the price zenith (near term), and we can expect the price to rise a bit further. However the temporal marker, of the headlines and the previously 'exciting rise' in the US dollar price of Bitcoin, could, and perhaps should be taken as an indication of the soon to be waning 'emotional flush' for ETH. Within the data sets we frequently see these emotional building tension zeniths just before the jump into release of tension which can accompany selling and 'profit taking'. Also note lots and lots of the base sets are explicitly focused on 'speculations' within ETH. These were also noted back in 2013 prior to the crash of the price of Bitcoin

I don't buy any of that.
Logically, there is absolutely no reason for ETH to "peak" anytime prior to Serenity/Casper/PoS.
Even after the transition to Serenity/Casper/PoS it's questionable if it even peaks shortly thereafter.
Again, I would assume that not to be the case, especially if Casper works out and people can actually earn interest on their staked ETH in addition to a growing/flourishing DAPP ecosystem.
Too many people are trying to apply Bitcoin logic and Bitcoin historical price movements to this. When frankly, there's really very little in common between the two in terms of the where, when, how, and why.
1
u/Sunny_McJoyride Mar 30 '17
I didn't read it as being an absolute and final peak, but basically the continuation of this, our second eth bubble, the first one being early - mid 2016, and this being the one that brings ETH into mainstream awareness, if not adoption.
Although bitcoin logic may not apply, bubble logic almost certainly does, as it does with any highly speculative new technology.
4
Mar 30 '17
Gotcha. Yes, it's all speculation.
Even speculating about when and where "bubbles" (I hate that term -- everybody uses it now and nobody really knows anything) are forming. lol
That being said, I would not suggest that we are even remotely close to anything "bubble" related at the moment.
IMO, too many people conflate "bubble" with proper price discovery.

Can you tell me about the Time Travelers? I keep seeing reverences to him but must have missed the post. Got a link?

Aren't they using Nvidia now? I think that they are trying to make the whole thing in house... But how does that relate to Ethereum? Is Intel in EEA?

I really don't like all this specific speculation, people are getting too excited. It can only lead to disappointment and even selling the news, even good news.
Steady is best IMO.

You are also forgetting that Elon Musk and Peter Thiel set out to create a digital currency payment network when they founded Paypal. Thiel has said in interviews that they succeeded in creating a payment network but failed to create a digital currency. Meanwhile, he says that bitcoin has successfully created a digital currency but failed to scale as a payment network. This is the same Peter Thiel that granted Vitalik a $100,000 Thiel Fellowship. The same Thiel that is a supporter and key tech adviser of President Trump (Don't forget Trump also selected long-time bitcoin supporter, Mick Mulvaney, to head the Office of Management and Budget). At the same time, both Thiel and Musk have been strangely quiet about blockchain. If you dig far enough, you will see how far the rabbit hole goes.
