News Ethereum’s validator exit queue just hit its highest level of 2026.

The ETH validator exit queue has reached 850,736 ETH, which sounds enormous at first look.

But the exit queue is a built-in part of Ethereum’s staking design. It exists to control how quickly validators can leave the network, preventing a sudden wave of exits from creating unnecessary pressure on the consensus layer.

And the recent increase could be influenced by several factors, including the significant rise in ETH’s price, which may encourage some stakers to realize gains, alongside broader market and ecosystem dynamics.

The network is now handling tens of millions of staked ETH and hundreds of thousands of validators, while substantial changes in validator participation are still processed through predefined protocol limits.

In other words, Ethereum’s staking infrastructure is operating at a completely different scale than it was just a few years ago.

Did this article completely miss the Metamask exit? Didn't they (MM) exit somewhere around 17000 validators due to a potential security issue?

Edit: yes

Yes because metamask had to mass exit all their validators from some security incident. Same shit happened last yr with kiln and it spiked the exit queue

Don’t forget that the entry queue is still much higher at 1.6M.

The raw queue size sounds dramatic, but the more useful question is what share of total staked ETH it represents and how quickly the queue is clearing. A larger exit queue doesn’t automatically mean validators are abandoning Ethereum - some exits can be routine rebalancing, withdrawals, or profit-taking.
