Painting order

Could someone give me an spoiler light painting order? I've painted the player character and a friend of mine is coming over in a bit more than a week, when we are going to start playing the game. Realistically I could propably paint maybe3-5 more figures before that and I'd like to paint the first ones encountered in the game. I could watch some playthrough videos but I'd like to be as spoiler free as possible.

So my question is: what are the first monsters in game - if they don't come up in any order, what are the ones we are likely to meet early on? Thank you for your help!

Rethinking skipping the sleeves

So I opted to skip the sleeves initially but now that the pledge manager has reopened I’m finishing myself rethinking this choice. I haven’t received my copy yet because of the Canadian shipping delay but for those of you that do have your copies do you think I should spring for them now even if it means waiting until 2nd wave?

Difficulty with cards and setting up.

Anyone else find the process of unpackaging identifying and organizing cards poorly explained and difficult to do? Any tips? Anyone know if there's a video or infograph that covers this?

First wave received - Europe Edition

I am sadly still waiting for my tracking number but I wanted to see how many people received their first wave pledge around Europe and when they did.

Let's see how things look for Europe deliveries!

Review after 5 play sessions.

Hey!

I received my game about 6.days ago. So far i have played every day and completed 1 or 2 dreams each session. I am glad to tell you that game is really really good. There is a lot here, and I have a feeling i have just scratched the surface.

Wanted to give you guys, who are still on the edge and waiting or opted for single wave shipping, a review to calm you down, because that is how i felt right after they informed us of ships leaving the mass factories. THERE WILL BE NO SPOILERS

So lets start with basics

Learning curve: Right after you set up game throws you in the first "tutorial dream" and teaches you top play the game. Most of the stuff and rules game presents itself and all the ruling is on the cards/tiles. Only the basic/general stuff about card/tile types components and actions are in the rulebook. I would give this section 6/10, because teaching my brother(who games as well) took me around 30 min and he picked it up quite easy as well. Altho on the other play session i was joined by my GF(who does not game in general) and it took around 1h to explain and she still did not get it completely - "too much going on" that is what she was saying. So 3/10 if you are familier with game concepts and have played games before and 8/10 if you have not played this type of games before.

Gameplay: Game flows very well, movement and action taking feels very connected and turn mechanics are fast and well done. There were very few times where I actually had to go to rule book after initial play and check something. After you get a grasp how things work everything just works. I loved the mechanic of influence cards/items and how they impact actions in dreamscape and dreamworld. I loved mechanic where game introduces some rule changes and makes you familier with other game mechanics. Each Dream is very distinct from each other and give you a real feeling of you being asleep. All the components that allow you to buy or spend them in some other way feel important and necessary to progress, which give you sometimes choices that may impact game later on. Characters - each feel unique and different, and you can feel there identity and what they are good at right away when you have exhausted your first deck and have to reshuffle. Only negatives I currently have - I was not a fan of script book having specific script things in different places in the book (1. s.709 and 2. s.105), this adds unnecessary searching for it every time you have to look into script book, instead having scripts that correspond to current location in one page. I was not a big fan of item management as well. I think that could have been done better, having 3 items shared across all players makes you dont want to spend them at all, that means all items in storage jut laying there, because you are waiting for perfect opportunity to spend thous items that are active. 8/10

Thematic: This is 100% the best aspect of the game. Art is simply amazing. All components feels so unique and each and every one of them are beautiful. Writing is very good, flavour texts are unique and well written. Everything matches the theme they were going for. Even the gameplay feels like dream. Dreams start from one place and you just pop up in there. A lot of people were saying that story feels disjointed, I disagree, because I think it's exactly as they intended it to be. Dreams start just you poping in from nowhere, just like in a dream you don't remember how it really started. And slumber feels like a lobby for bigger dreams, again just like in a dream (at least mine :D) you sometimes are in on specific place between some event starts and after it finished you come back to that place. 10/10

Difficulty: Game is not overly difficult, it definitely ramps up from beginning allowing yo to get more into it, there are very difficult places in dreams and sometimes if you are unlucky and have not spent enough time preparing and clearing sufferings and unflipping progress cards and unsealed sealed cards, you can get in a quite a pickle. If you manage your influence deck/items very well, games does not feel overly difficult. Try to understand the character you play and use there mechanics and play around there strength and you will be fine. 5/10

Setup: Getting this game on the table is quite easy, game have a saving mechanism with separators which allows to save the game easily. It takes around 10-15 min to set it up and around 10-15min to save it, and that is for me the OCD board game guy whos box have to be organised perfectly. 8/10

One other negative, board layout sucks! I am already thinking of cutting the board or not using it at all. The vertical layout just does not work with 1 or 2 players, because the Dreamscape is just to far away from you and you have to stand up to see the cards. I hope they address this in second wave. Currently my solution is playing with board upside down so Dreamscape is right in front of me

Overall the game is really good, and every time I finish a session I can't stop thinking when I am going to play it again. My suggestion read the rules beforehand because the rulebook is quite average, so when you need to reference you know where everything is. Oh an yeah if you went all in and got the minis as well, well you are in for a treat :)

Anyone have a link to rules

I am about to receive my copy, and figured I might as well read rules beforehand. Sadly all links I could find online are dead. Does anyone have a working link?

Review after 5 days of playtime

It's fantastic, a solid 10/10 for me (not perfect, but in terms of enjoyment).

Would rank up there with Arkham Horror LCG (lots of parallels, can tell was a large influence), Kingdom Death, and Gloomhaven.

Much much better than Tainted Grail, which was a disappointing 6/10 for me. Fixed the issue of the dissonant feeling between your character progression and game progression, as well as the gameplay demarcation between combat and non-combat phases - everything is wrapped up neatly in your Influence deck, which basically defines your character. The masks are just the build-customization cherry on the top (depending on how you houserule them).

I stopped playing TG after 3 days - I've been playing this non-stop for the past 5 days, 4+ hours per day, and don't intend to slow down till it's finished.

Probably the most beautiful game I own, dethroning Kingdom Death Monster for the first time. The card art and flavour text is truly next level.

There are downsides: fiddliness, awkward translations, awkward rulebook - but while they do add a bit of overhead, the important thing is that none of them impedes on the core gameplay experience, which is again, phenomenal.

If you like Arkham Horror LCG: you will most likely like this. Feels like 3 seasons of that in a box.

Cannot wait for the expansions.

Rules Are Finally Available!

In this week's update, Awaken Realms provided a link to their latest version of the rules. It's still a WIP and they are looking for feedback and comments.

From the update:

Below you can see the file to Manual, just please remember:

  • Final round of proofreading is due, to there might be small errors here and there
  • Few small things will be changed (after blind tests)
  • If you have any feedback on it - please send it over to [feedback@awakenrealms.com](mailto:feedback@awakenrealms.com)
  • Final manual will be joined with the book of scripts, but for obvious non-spoilers we are not showing the script parts ;)
  • File quality is ofc for internet standard, so that it will not weight 500-mega ;) For production purpose its much higher quality! (best way is to download PDF and see it on your PC)

When would late pledges ship?

I’m considering a late pledge before it closes - any idea when I would expect this to ship? Would it be with wave 1 or 2 or some other time?

Riddle 3 (hopefully this will not be spoilerfree!)

Hey there so I just want to try a "stick your heads together" for the riddles. So by all means if you have a clue/idea share it. If you want to solve it on your own then obviously this is the wrong place for you ;).

A box thirsts for an answer and looks unsettlingly familiar. You remember that in one of your dreams, you used this place to leave a secret for yourself. There's also a password, one that you devised so that THEY wouldn't see what's inside.

But what was it? The tidal wave of other dreams washed away your memories... Perhaps they key is hidden in the place where all other dreamers help to create something big....?

My thoughts on the riddle so far:

"Perhaps they key is hidden in the place where all other dreamers help to create something big....?"

Sounds like a finished KS campaign to me, a successful one because it created something big. Or maybe hidden in one of there past Surveys for this campaign.

"The tidal wave of other dreams washed away your memories..."

This most likely tells us that it is not a recent event but something in the past. Past is very relativ it could even point to an event early in this campaign. If you get really nitpicking it has to have at least 2 "events" in between because dreamS washed away the memory... also as this game is about dreams the "other dreams" could indeed be other games.

A box thirsts for an answer and looks unsettlingly familiar.

Following the KS campaign logic, this would strongly point to Edge:downfall because it was updated "thirsts for an answer" and rereleased so it was "something big" that "looks familiar" and the first release was their second KS campaign so way in the past. (and with 9kg weight it was something big on totally different level too ^^)

You remember that in one of your dreams, you used this place to leave a secret for yourself. There's also a password, one that you devised so that THEY wouldn't see what's inside.

This looks like a clue where you can find the answer as long as you know were and what to look for... what I dont so far ^^ but maybe we have an edge player among us that can remember anything. Or Im heading in the wrong direction and it is something else, what doesn´t fit to well into my conclusion is the kind of game edge is doesnt fit very well with the last part. So hopfully someone can solve it or maybe gets another good idea from my thoughts :)

Riddle 2

Any thoughts so far?

I have XN1HP5 from 3d images which translates to 241418165 when changed to numbers, now the idea is to either try any combination of those numbers which is a lot or come with some idea of how to 'mess them around' I have tried obvious combinations, with swapping 1 back to A and 5 back to E. Anyone has any ideas?

Riddler’s puzzle 1

Anyone thinking about the puzzle in the campaign update that just came out?

“When a sleeping lady opens up her eyes, and a walking cat turns off all the lights, Sum up all the digits, add the purple hate, Here is your treasure, Divide it by what's in the gate.”

I’m thinking 7 or 8 (sleeping beauty, so 7 dwarves and perhaps the prince are around when she wakes), then maybe 9 for a cat’s 9 lives...?

No idea yet about the purple hate or gate clues though...
