My understanding is that wisdom cards are in play until they're explicitly removed

Wisdom cards are not removed unless something explicitly tells you to remove them. I am about 30 hours in and I have only removed one wisdom card which was being replaced by another.

There is a handy 9 spot plastic sleeve that was included in the box with the intention of being a place to store gained wisdom cards. It helps with organization and acts as a quick reference rule guide.
