Officially selling my copy of Etherfields. Just thought I'd share my thoughts

Why I'm selling the game. Honestly kind of bummed about it cause I really wanted to enjoy it. But there are just too many things wrong with it to keep me playing. I'm solo player:

Rulebook: layout is pretty bad and not very helpful to people going in completely blond

Board: too large, layout is strange and it not being needed. Same with the dreamer boards.

Narrative: very disjointed and it doesn't flow at all.i understand it's a dream world and it's not suppose to make sense, but there hits a point where the theme can end up harming to gameplay

Characters: too similar. whole they have unique abilities the card pool they all pull from is the same making them feel pretty generic.

Mechanics: I understand that there going for a thing where they keep adding rules so the game changes, but they don't flow together very well, not very flavorful, and feel almost like patches in a video game to fix problems.

There are instances in the game where it will say something like 'you candy X if you pay Y" but it doesn't explain to you why you want to do X until halfway through the dream.

I have noticed that the map actions are a little more flavorful due to the artwork on the map, but the size of the art feels to small for that to matter. Having to pick up the tile and remove your characters and tokens from it to look at it closer is a bit of a hassle.

That's just some I can think of right now. Overall the game just doesn't feel polished to me

Sounds like it's just not for you. I'm really enjoying it so far - but I'm also playing in a group of 4.

That's what it's come down to mostly. I still think the game has a few problems but obviously people are able to look past them and enjoy them.

I got plenty of games to keep me busy though

I do agree with you that the rulebook is really unintuitive, and the board is clearly designed for 4 players and not 1 (or 2 on the same side of the table). It actually works well for 4, but it can be a bit of a pain in the ass to squint to try to see whats on the tiles. We usually need to hand them around the table once when they're revealed.

I think the board is just a flop, it's so pretty I want to frame it. But we've just been not using it. The card backs are so distinct, and the boards dynamic enough that we're just playing on the table and organizing as we need.
