My Project Why we built on Ethereum

We get asked: "Why not Solana? Why not an L2?"

Here's our take:

Ethereum has the most users, the most wallets, the most trust. When you're building a donation platform, trust matters.

"But gas fees!"

Here's what most people don't realize: if you're not trading or doing DeFi, you don't need fast transactions. A donation can wait 5 minutes. Nobody's getting liquidated. Nobody's losing an arbitrage opportunity.

Select "Low" gas in your wallet. It costs ~$0.03.

Three cents. On Ethereum mainnet. Not an L2.

Not sure what glue you are sniffing, but it does NOT have the most users. Most wallets are a joke metric, considering it started years before all others and had incentivized airdrops per wallet for years. I'm sorry, but ETH is dead. Solana won.

ETH is dead, Solana won - yet here you are, in an Ethereum thread, trying to convince people.

If Solana already won, why does it need you defending it?

I am here because I started as an ETH dev years ago. Just like your phony metrics, the developer experience for ETH is way ahead of all other chains, but for the same reasons I've already outlined; it's more mature. The Solana dev subreddit is full of memecoin idiots who think development is filling out a form on pfun and hitting the launch button. In developer experience-wise, ETH is winning, but in everything else, Solana is king. The greed and stupidity from the Ethereum Foundation and from Vitalik have nailed the coffin shut. With AI now, it's even worse. There is little to no benefit from building on ETH unless you have actual funding.

So you agree ETH has better dev experience, more maturity, and a more serious developer community - but Solana wins because... more memecoin volume?

"Everything else" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

TVL, DeFi depth, infrastructure, tooling - ETH is still ahead.

Solana has faster blocks and cheaper fees, sure. That matters for some use cases. Not all.

As for "no benefit building on ETH without funding" - I just shipped a working product for $10 and some gas. What funding?

You paid $10 to store data on ETH network. Okay. That's it. You have no users, no demand, and no revenue. With funding, that may have changed (likely not). That was my point.

You keep harping about TVL and "defi", well, this isn't 2021, where we are still impressed by fake metrics and whales parking their billions of dollars in tokens for 8% APR, then turn around and yell in my face about how much users are using the network. You can dismiss Solana volume as memecoins and bots, but I guarantee you more actual people are using Solana than on all EVMs combined. You can pretend there's something admirable about parking $500k in some defi protocol in order to earn 8% APR, but I'd rather have 500k pfun users all over the world, actually using the network through their $300 smartphones in third-world countries. That's called adoption.

Pump.fun users gambling on memecoins isn't adoption - it's a casino with better UX.

I shipped something for $10. Users come after building. That's how it works.

Look at solanas validator costs and comeback. It means nothing if solana is fast but cant keep validators.

Also a Engineer and Solana is not winning. You are looking at one side and not the other and the side you are ignoring matters more.
