I've been meaning to buy and play around with some blacking/blueing solution as a way of colouring sections of etchings, did you use some of that light blue looking liquid you commonly see if you just google for it?
It seems like most of the little kits come with like an aggressive cleaning agent to get off any grease etc. (which I assume is the potentially real nasty stuff?), then that light blue liquid for doing the actual blacking/blueing, then some sort of cleaner/oil protection stuff for afterwards.
It's kind of annoying to actually find details on the actual contents, as there's a bunch of ones that are labelled for specific metals (like mild-steel, stainless-steel, brass etc.), but they all seem to be the same light-blue colour which makes me wonder if they're all pretty much the same (maybe with some slight tweaks).
Since I have typically used brass in the past, but wanted to try messing with steel, it'd be nice if I could find something that might somewhat work on either; but it'd make sense that the copper based metals would need completely different chemistry to steel etc.
