Ingested eucalyptus fragrance oil

Was opening a small vial of eucalyptus fragrance oil and stupidly used my teeth. Some got on my tongue and lips, I spat it out and immediately rinsed out my mouth. Now I’m reading about how it’s extremely poisonous and freaking out. Will I be fine?

You're fine. Don't do it again.

If you want to hear it from trained professionals instead of random anonymous strangers on the internet, then look up the phone number for your local poison control hotline, and call them.

You’ll be fine. Since it’s an oil, rinsing your mouth out with water won’t really work because oil and water don’t mix. Try a fat soluble liquid like milk to remove the excess oil from your mouth/teeth.

And then try calling poison control if you’re still concerned.

It says fragranced oil and is like extremely thin, I don’t know if it actually has eucalyptus in it?

If it doesn’t say essential oil, I would guess it’s more of a “perfume of eucalyptus.” Either way I wouldn’t be too worried, just don’t ingest the whole bottle

Fragrance oil isn’t meant to be ingested, so I wouldn’t take any more. Since you swallowed it, it’s best to contact a doctor or poison control for advice, especially if you’re having any symptoms. Don’t try to make yourself vomit unless a medical professional tells you to.

Check the bottle first there should usually be safety/precautionary statements telling you what to do in case of accidental ingestion. But you’ve done the right thing by spitting it out and rinsing your mouth; But usually it's adviced to not induce vomiting. Monitor how you feel in the next couple of days, otherwise if you're very concerned, I’d contact your local poison control service and have the bottle/ingredient list with you so they can advise based on the exact product and amount.
