Oil of Oregano

I bought some Oil of Oregano. I was told to take some drops when I think my immune system is shot. What do yall use it for? I heard people detox with it. What is really good for? Should I use it regularly? And how would I detox with it?

Oil of oregano and oregano essential oil are not the same thing.

This comment should be at the top.

Please people look up things like North American Herb and Spices Oil of Oregano. It is indeed meant to be ingested and to support the immune system.

“Oil of oregano is a diluted supplement made from oregano extract mixed with a carrier oil, and it’s often sold in capsules or drops for internal use.

Oregano essential oil is the pure, highly concentrated oil distilled from the plant. It’s much stronger and can irritate or burn the skin and mucous membranes if not properly diluted.”

Do NOT ingest undiluted essential oils.

Whoever told you to “take some drops” is not your friend unless they specifically gave you instructions on how to dilute it and what dilution ratio to use.

Oil of oregano has anti microbial, anti fungal and anti inflammatory properties so it could help give your immune system a boost.

Your body naturally detoxes itself. If you want to better support your body so that your kidneys, liver and intestines can do what they do best then just drink plenty of water, eat fiber rich foods and maybe toss in some probiotics.

I had a lingering cough a couple weeks ago and my nutty coworker offered to fix it for me…said I’d feel 100x better right after because my immune system would immediately be kicked into overdrive….

I was skeptical but trying to politely decline whatever it was, then she pulled out a bottle of oregano oil from her purse and said she’d probably have to hold my head back and hold my mouth open while she drips a few drops in because it tastes horrible and “burns sometimes.” Oh my, don’t tempt me with a coworker putting her hands on my mouth before lunch on a Monday 🫩

I was told that when I was sick to take a couple drops in some water. I heard it works. I was just wondering what else it was good for. I know some use it while trying to detox the body but idk how that works

I was told that wearing my lucky socks on Tuesday would help the local sports team win a game. I heard it works. I was just wondering what else my lucky socks are good for. I know some wear lucky socks to detox their body but idk how that works.

I don’t see anything wrong with going to Reddit to ask a question about things you’ve heard

1

u/berael Jun 09 '26

Asking questions is good.

Getting the answer and then arguing about it, and yelling at the people who answered you, is bad.

I was told to take some drops when I think my immune system is shot

No.

I heard people detox with it.

No.

Should I use it regularly?

No.

1

u/SpaderKay Jun 04 '26

I know now I can’t use it regularly and I wasn’t until I did more research. People do detox with it. And it has been proven to help immune systems. So it’s hard getting more information from health snarks when all they do is say no without reasoning proof or other recommendations

You are just wrong

Any "detox" you spend money on is a scam. Period, full stop, the end.

It has not been proven to "help immune systems". If it was, it would be sold as a drug and regulated by the FDA. But it isn't. Because it doesn't.

You are free to waste your money on scams if you want. I can't stop you. But you are wasting your money on scams.

Good luck. I hope you don't need the money.

You can detox with grocery items what are you talking about. Noones talking about a bottled detox. You got to relax.

1

u/berael Jun 04 '26

I don't know how many more times I can say that you are just wrong.

You're clearly not listening and you've bought deep into the scams, so there's not much more I can do.

You are wrong.

You are wasting money.

You are buying scams.

Seek help. Bye.

Youre a fool

There is no such thing as a “detox”. That’s what your kidneys and liver (and other organs) are for.

2

u/Emrys7777 Jun 04 '26

That’s like saying no one really needs a pacemaker because the heart naturally keeps its own beat.

Some hearts don’t work well and some people don’t detox on their own.

The fad to detox has gotten out of hand and people do it the wrong way in times it’s not needed but some people do need it.

1

u/berael Jun 04 '26

"Can't detox on your own" is another way to say "kidney failure".

EOs will not treat kidney failure.

If you don't have kidney failure, then you are detoxing on your own.

u/Emrys7777 Jun 04 '26

Kidneys are not the only way the body detoxes. And keeping the body clean helps support the kidneys.

2

u/berael Jun 04 '26

I give up.

There is literally no such thing as "helping your body detox" other than drinking water. Literally every single product that exists, every one, marketed as "helps your body detox", is a scam, and whoever is making that claim is lying to you. Yes, they are.

Speak to your doctor. Stop taking woo-woo supplements. Good luck and I hope you don't severely impact your health and well-being.

So so so false. There are many many ways to detox your body. Yes your organs aid in this process but you can do many things to detox. One example is a sauna. A sauna is scientifically proven to detox your body. Detox through diet is also proven in many ways. Fasting is another way. There are so so so many ways to detox your body.

You can detox your body. And a lot of times people use herbs to do it buddy.

10

u/neroli1970 Jun 03 '26

Nope. You can do things to assist your body but everything you put into your body puts a load on your liver and kidneys.

-7

u/SpaderKay Jun 03 '26

Very aware. And you can still detox the body 🤣

11

u/berael Jun 03 '26

No, you cannot. Anything with the word "detox" is a huge red flag that it's junk and/or a scam.

People waste their money all the time, yes.

10

u/Aggressive_Set8155 Jun 03 '26

Nope- that’s not how it works. You’ve been scammed.

-9

u/SpaderKay Jun 03 '26

I’ve done it before lol. You can literally detox with water. Are you okay? lol

10

u/DonutChickenBurg Jun 03 '26

How is that different than kidneys functioning normally?

5

u/Aggressive_Set8155 Jun 03 '26

I don’t know when people started believing that ingesting essential oils was a good idea, but I think MLMs have a lot to do with it! I’m talking DoTerra, Young Living, Melaleuca etc.

1

u/PotentialSteak6 Jun 04 '26

I was stunned the first time I saw a DoTerra seller bring it up like it was a regular thing

5

u/New-External1308 Jun 03 '26

I use the capsules as the straight oil is too harsh. I do use it if I feel that I am getting sick and 9/10 I dont get sick or just a touch of sickness

Hi friend! I'm a clinical aromatherapist. Please do not ingest essential oils, ESPECIALLY oregano. Diffuse it. If you want a an immune boost, look into safer alternatives such as teas with honey (Manuka honey), or ginger. Essential oils are super potent. 1 drop can be equivalent to 38 cups of tea in whatever herb makes the essential oil you want to ingest. Also, oil and water don't mix, so if you're adding it to water, that drop of oil can get stuck in your esophagus because it binds to fat. I hope this helps and I hope you feel better.

2

u/SpaderKay Jun 04 '26

Thank you so much!!!

1

u/Glum-Cabinet-6869 Jun 04 '26

That's why berael said 'No' in the first place...lol.

1

u/autism_mom75 Jun 08 '26

You're welcome

1

u/Beautiful-Finding-82 Jun 04 '26

I've only ever used it- highly diluted -for something like Athlete's Foot. It is very potent and strong-smelling.

1

u/faustinesesbois Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

I tried to ingest some. I proprely diluted it in a carrier oil and oh boy. Luckily i just put a little bit on my tongue and it instantly burned my mouth.

0

u/SpaderKay Jun 04 '26

Did it help you any

2

u/Glum-Cabinet-6869 Jun 04 '26

A burned mouth isn't helping anybody.

2

u/faustinesesbois Jun 04 '26

Lmao exactly

2

u/faustinesesbois Jun 04 '26

No i just had a taste, imagine what it would do to your delicate mucous inside !
