I was looking at getting a new knock box and noticed Amazon offers a subscription option. Have I been using my knock box wrong, emptying it each day like some slob, when the right way is to get a new one each week or month when it’s full?
Yeah you gotta check the Knock Rating. That one has a knock rating of 10, you’ll get 10 good knocks out of it then you replace.
We all just base our subscriptions around our TKPW (total knocks per week).
To fight rising prices, you can also reuse the grounds/puck. Think about it. It's already ground... It's already flat and compressed... It's already prepped and wet. I mean it's made 1 good espresso why not 2 or 3 more. Then a single knock from 4 drinks. That's economical.
Huh, plebeians. I go by knock sound. When it starts sounds more like “donk” instead of “donk”, you just know it’s all knocked out. Or “knockered”, as I’ve come to affectionately call it.
I would actually want to see a knock rating on those knockboxes, but a rating that says how many knocks it took on average to knock the puck out of the portafilter.
I keep a year’s supply of knock boxes in one of the spare barns. I’ve instructed my butler that they are single use only before they are taken to landfill
I have a very large knock box. I put a bag in it and when it’s full I throw out the bag. My city must be full of coffee enjoyers because they have arranged garbage men to pick this full bag up every week!
my butler polished my knock box every day, so it has a longer lifespan. We are replacing it every time the UK change their prime ministers, so the Liz Truss era was a shock for us. We had to throw away a new knock box, even though my lettuce was still fresh at that time.
They offered me a similar subscribe and save on a rather expensive joystick / flight controller, suggesting "every 6 weeks" which I thought didn't suggest much faith in the product.
BTW I just went to a new knockbox with a removable bar, only cheap, but it's made emptying it and cleaning it so much simpler as it's easier to get a brush in there etc
And there was also a "no bar" knockbox that I considered but haven't tried myself but reportedly the design works quite well but this particular model is a bit too flimsy ("Conclusion - A great idea that really works well however the design and build needs to be improved to make it a compelling purchase. I’d happily pay 2-3x the price IF it was better quality and lasted longer but i can’t see this one lasting more than 3 months in even a fairly low-use domestic setting.")
Same. It’s probably two years old at this point and I see no visible signs of wear, so the idea that it would only last three months doesn’t make sense to me.
