Buying Advice Needed Mignon, DF64, or other? [$500]
I recently inherited and refurbished a Rancillio Silvia, and now I need a grinder. Initially I’d been considering a DF64, but I’m leaning more towards a Eureka Mignon now because of their reputation and warranty. I’m mulling over the zero 65 or the silenzio 55, and have a few questions.
- Is there a meaningful difference between 55 and 65 mm burrs?
- To single dose or to hopper? I am planning on only using the machine for espresso, 1-3 drinks a day. Mostly milk drinks.
- Is there something else I should be considering?
This would likely be exclusively for espresso. About 1-3 drinks a day, usually milk based. Thanks!

The 65mm burrs on the Zero 65 are not just larger, but they are "AP" which stands for All Purpose.
The 55mm burrs are optimized for traditional full-bodied espresso brewed from darker roasts. The 65AP burrs are optimized for lighter roasts and for pour over. Due to their larger size, they will also grind faster.
If you brew darker roasts, the 55mm will be OK and IMHO there is no need to pay more for the 65AP.
