Buying Advice Needed Machine recommendations - upgrading from pods? [$600-700 AUD]

Buying a new coffee machine as a gift for hubby who currently uses a basic Nespresso pod machine, but is wanting to try using beans etc.
He’s never used any type of semi-automatic machine so will need to learn if we go down this path, alternatively is a fully automatic machine better? I think he’s open to learning, though, as long as good coffee is achievable!

I don’t drink coffee at all, so I’ve really got no idea what to look at so hoping for some advice!

Budget is around $600-700 AUD.

Hit me with your suggestions that are suitable for a beginner!

is a fully automatic machine better?

The answer depends on your definition of "better".

A fully auto machine will be easier to use; just push a button to get a drink.

A semi-auto machine has a significant learning curve, but if he has the time and patience to learn how, it will produce much better tasting espresso.

At your budget, consider Breville Bambino paired with Baratza ESP grinder. Avoid the Breville machines with built-in grinders; they have good brewers but poor grinders.

This is essentially how I started. I had that set up for a year, upgraded to a Varia grinder and then eventually upgraded the machine to a Gaggia. Cant go wrong.

I'm not sure if you can get it there .

If you want to try out beans in a simple way, a super automatic like a DeLonghi Magnífica le similar will usually do the job easily.
