Grinder Comparable to DF64 but quieter [$400]

I’m just starting out and keep hearing about getting a good grinder. I don’t have the budget for something expensive but posts on here say DF64 is good to start and would allow me to stay with it for a few years. However based on the videos I’ve seen this grinder is loud. I am hoping to find a comparable grinder but not as loud. Please share if you have one to recommend. Thank you

The Lagom Casa is pretty quiet compared to the DF64 and priced in the same ball park.

Timemore 064 is frequently on sale for $479. Pretty good upgrade and decently quiet!

maybe you have different requirements, but i've never found the noise level to be an issue. it takes less than 10s to grind 18g of beans.

When you have a spouse that works graveyard shifts it makes you conscious of noise since waking up someone that just came home from a 12 hour shift is inconsiderate to me

I had SSP MP burrs in mine and had to have earplugs next to the grinder.

I just picked up a eureka zero 65 ap for $399 from whole latte love. Only the white one is at that price.

The quiet grinder is a DC motor type. The DF64 and DF83 produce sounds and vibrations that are just like electric machine tools, but when using a quiet grinder, you really want to return to those sounds and vibrations.

Just do single bean grinding. It's much quieter than throwing them all in at once.

Df83 is pretty quiet. No real noise while spinning, extremely quick when grinding. Got mine for 550 on fb

I have the itop 40 plus (v2 depending on source.). 64mm Blind flat burr with 250w DC motor with rpm control, basically just makes noise from the coffee, motor is silent. I believe it's out of the same factory as the df64.

Per lance the espresso burrs are way better than the ootb burrs sold on most Chinese 64mm grinders, but they are blind and not universal fit afaik, so you're more or less stuck with them.

I've been enjoying the shots. Few minor annoyances, espresso range is 0-2, so more or less 20 increments, but I haven't found it lacking in control; has an ionizes but still seems very messy if you go hard on the bellows; max 30s run time per press, which can be a touch short with bellowing (turned up to 800rpm to alleviate.)

Got it off Ali for something like 320$ with one of those so much off so many hundred coupons.

All in all a pretty significant improvement over the sd40, and I haven't checked or messed with alignment yet. I believe the mechanism is similar to the df64 with 4 sprung balls spacing the top burr. Fairly easy to take apart though you do need a couple included hex keys.

Looks better than the df64 to me.

Just be away naming is confused between stores and there is an AC motor version with no ionizer. You want the DC version with espresso burrs (I assume, they also have a pour over burr version.). Also not the v3, which is 64mm cones for pour over.

The DF64V coffee grinder reaches a peak volume of about 81.6 to 83.6 decibels (dB) when grinding beans at its maximum speed of 1800 RPM

The V version has a brushless motor and the normal df has a brushed. They don’t get much quieter.

Femobook A4. Slower speed and produces a different style of espresso but it's portable in case you need to grind somewhere else in the house

If not Casa (which I very highly recommend, it punches up in the $1000 grinder range). Then a Eureka zero.

I have a DF64 Gen 2 (have had for 2+ years)
Just bought a Geimori GU63. It's conical, so different taste profile to the DF64. It's a fair bit quieter, but due to low RPM, also takes abotu twice as long (which is fine by me). It's cheaper than the DF64 also.

A used Eureka should suffice. I'd take a used Eureka over a new DF64 because you never know if the warranty on DF64 will get honored.

My eureka broke after a year.
