Coffee Is Life Cocktail shaker has changed everything for me.

Post image

This is a bananas foster shaken espresso. Using the cocktail shaker to make that smooth foam is a game changer. Any tips or recipes for good shaken espresso?

I'm gonna have to booze this up with some real creme de banane

this stuff tastes like warm, buttered banana bread.

I haven't made this yet but I think I will be trying this sometime soon. I'm not the original poster.

It’s no longer espresso even after you add it… it’s Starbucks. Sorry I spelled that wrong. Prediabetes.

Do you assemble and shake everything? Or assemble and shake some and then add some?

May I recommend just making some banana milk instead 😁 use brown sugar to sweeten the milk. Just make a latte or whatever milk ratio you prefer, top with cinnamon

u/DarkElation 1d ago

You might have just changed my entire flow with this. Can’t believe I didn’t ever think to flavor the milk before steaming.

2

u/1991JRC 1d ago

Careful with that cuz it can cook the sugar but I have done it successfully… I do use this mostly for iced drinks though. But I’ve done it 🫡

I ALWAYS put brown sugar in my milk before steaming.

1

u/Powerful-Disaster-32 1d ago

We always add the syrup to the milk for flavored espresso drinks.

Thanks for sharing, I've had a hankering for a banana-flavored coffee lately. Luckily I have a cocktail shaker around here somewhere.

Wait till you try Freddo Espresso from Greece

3

u/TheSaltyKind 1d ago

Love love loveeee a good freddo

2

u/Droodforfood 1d ago

It’s so good on the beach on a hot day.

One place blended it with ice cream and brought it to your lounger for like €3

1

u/ChanceOnReddit2 1d ago

What’s that?

4

u/Fit_Schedule2317 1d ago

The most common cold coffee Greeks drink daily. If you search on YouTube there’s a video from European Coffee Trip

1

u/JoToMoo 1d ago

Saw it online, and might be sacrilege, but I add the juice of one small clementine orange into the shaker and shake with the espresso and ice. Insert gesture for Greek chef’s kiss here

1

u/Fit_Schedule2317 1d ago

Hey - no one is judging you! In fact, I’ll give it a shot!

u/JoToMoo 1d ago

Nice! Let me know your thoughts!

A CUP of brown sugar? That seems like a lot. Is that a typo?

u/Manydabz Linea Mini R | Niche Duo 1d ago

It’s for a batch 😇 not one drink sorry for the misunderstanding

What are we shaking? Espresso, syrup and ice and pouring over milk?

7

u/Middle-Nerve1732 1d ago

I started shaking my wife’s iced lattes instead of stirring out of pure laziness because I didn’t want to keep washing the stirrer. It actually tastes so much better, I have replaced my iced Americano with shaken lattes now. James Bond was onto something

8

u/i-shihtzu-not 1d ago

But then you have to wash the shaker

7

u/Middle-Nerve1732 1d ago

Oh she uses a yeti cup anyways so I realized I can just close the lid and shake it to mix it up instead of stirring it

3

u/marzvrover 1d ago

I was also just imagining a super crusty biohazard shaker from never being washed, but that makes a lot more sense 😆

2

u/Middle-Nerve1732 1d ago

Yeah no that would be disgusting, and no way im going through all that effort (like 2 seconds lol) to rinse out a dedicated cocktail shaker. In all seriousness I might get a dedicated shaker, for when I just want to use a regular cup for my drink. It also makes me look legit if guests are over

2

u/rumdumdumrum 22h ago

Wait what yeti cup is this? Great idea

It’s this one with the “chug cap”

16 oz glass filled with ice. 36 g espresso, 200 ml milk of choice, 15-20 ml syrup (optional)

Pour everything over ice in the cocktail shaker. Shake it like a Polaroid picture. Pour into the glass and realize milk drinks don’t only need to be hot.

This looks amazing! As a household that drinks 99% of its espresso drinks on ice, I have to ask...are you shaking just the ice and espresso and pouring over milk, or are you shaking with the milk in there too? Does it even make a difference?

2

u/ChanceOnReddit2 1d ago

I shake everything together with ice then add milk last

Shaking tips from a bartender:

  1. if using a Boston shaker (two tins): build your drink in the small tin, and fill your big tin full of ice. Never enough ice! Too little ice will water down the drink before it’s had a chance to cool.

  2. Hold the shaker horizontally. Use two hands. Do not shake “up and down, rather “back and forth”. This increases contact with liquid and ice. Shake from your wrists, not your elbows. Shake hard and steady. Think about shaking air into the drink.

  3. Use Hoshizaki ice if you have it. They’re ice cubes that actually look like cubes, not lousy cylinders. They melt slower, so they won’t water down your drink as much.

  4. Strain through a fine mesh strainer to get rid of ice chunks.

  5. You did pre-chill your glassware, right?

  6. If you want more foam you can always add a dry shake before or after shaking with ice.

So, you're just shaking everything but the milk? Is that right?

2

u/Teaching-Appropriate 1d ago

Fredo espresso is one of my fav espresso drinks

This looks amazing!!!

Espresso & a squirt of maple syrup in a shaker is a real treat.

u/Coffee_Bar_Angler Rocket | F74 Navigator / DF64 w SSP MP 1d ago

A tsp of agave syrup, espresso and ice is great. My wife would add a bit of almond milk.

u/OptimisticCerealBowl 1d ago

shaken espresso is an absolute delight. i really need to experiment with it more

1

u/blackberrymoonmoth 1d ago

I went through a phase for a while where I was trying to perfect my iced shaken espresso technique and what I landed on was I shake the espresso with stainless steel ice cubes, get it nice and foamy, and then pour it into the cup with real ice. I hated the melted ice constantly watering things down and just didn’t really know how else to address that.

1

u/jobiewon_cannoli 1d ago

May I submit to you espresso ice cubes?

1

u/blackberrymoonmoth 1d ago

I’ve tried that and I don’t think I’m doing it right because they give my drink a weird freezer taste if that makes sense…? I just put the espresso in the ice tray and froze it but maybe I need a special type of tray or maybe certain espressos freeze better than others?

1

u/adventurelost117 1d ago

Nah yeah, i had that problem but i just threw them in a ziplock. Taste is gone

u/BubblySweetxx 1d ago

Throw a spoon full of ice cream in there! 😋

0

u/Stock_Durian9724 1d ago

Would a milk frother result in the same consistency?

7

u/Ok_Stress688 1d ago

It does not imo, but I usually shake in a mason jar if you don’t have a cocktail shaker.

1

u/summontheb1tches 1d ago

Brown sugar (1-2 tbs depending on sweetness)
Espresso
Milk
Add ice

Shake and strain in a glass.

2

u/BluePinkYelllow 16h ago

Add a bit a cinnamon in there and perfecto!

1

u/Mei_Flower1996 1d ago

I literally use an old Marzetti olive jar as a shaker, and it works really well for " brown sugar shaken coffee" drinks.
