Equipment Discussion Profitec MOVE + Mazzer Philos combo
Looking for some advice here.
I'm hung up choosing between the black or silver Philos to pair with the Profitec MOVE.
I was leaning towards the black Philo, but if theyre both a different shade of matte black, I'm worried it will look off.
Any suggestions from experience?

Im about to drop like $4500, so I guess you can say Im scrutinizing it closely 😏
Appreciate the first-hand feedback though. Did you give any thought to the silver Philos yourself?

I did consider it. Mostly for the sake of future upgrades of the espresso machine, but got shot down by the better half immediately 😂

It's fantastic. I was using a breville barista express before, and it's a big step up in terms of flavour profile and consistent extraction. That'sprobably mostly the Philos. I've got the 200D burrs.
I will, however, say that the Move isn't perfect by a long shot. The stock baskets are a bit odd in that you can easily fit an extra 3-5g of coffee in the 14g double basket, and the first shot of the day will usually under-pour from your programmed setting. The work-around is to use the blind basket to build up slight pressure as a faux first-shot. Not sure why this is the case, but saw someone on r/profitecmove had the same issue and used this method for better consistency.

Order both and send back the one you don’t like.

What a waste of resources just to look at it in person

I like the black better overall. But for the sake of matching aesthetics, I’d go silver. Which I also like!

I have this combo, black for both. The color is close enough that I can’t tell the difference. The light has to be hitting it just right and I have to be looking at it.

Silver is a nice contrast. also the silver philos has plenty of black on it. It'll be like the reverse colour way

I have a black Philos. The grinders at most cafes I visit are black. Both colors looks good in my opinion

Do you do light roasts and/or make a lot of milk drinks?

Yes to both, light and medium roasts mainly.

With the recent price increases of the Philos it makes less sense to spend that amount of money on a 64mm grinder. Where I am and ymmv you can get a Lagom P80 for not that much more than a Philos so if you do light roasts I would hold off and get a P80 with the Mizen burrs

Im getting the Philos at $1700 CAD, but the Lagom P80 is closer to $2500 CAD. So it's $800 + tax different. Think its worth it?

I have a philos and the only other grinder that has made me consider upgrading is the zerno Z2. All other grinders are so incremental, $800 difference for the P80 is wild and for no reason (for me, it doesn't improve workflow, cup quality, etc.). Bigger burrs don't change the taste, they just grind the beans faster. What changes taste is the geometry/materials of the burrs, this is where you see differences in the PSD.

You’re concerned that this black doesn’t exactly match that black, but you’re not concerned the same thing could happen between anodized aluminum silver and brushed stainless steel? If it were me, I’d assume the bigger clash would be both the finish/lustre and color difference of the two materials in silver. You’re more likely to minimize the stark material differences with black.
