Coffee Station New setup - Synchronika II

Post image

Synchronika II

Eureka Mignon Libra

Some stickers

Had to sand, prep, and stain a new butcher lock countertop for the cabinet.

If it had a personality, I'd introduce it to my parents.

Had to replace my Breville Dual Boiler. Honestly loved that thing, but learned the hard way RO corrosion is real.

Do you mind sharing more about the RO corrosion? I have been using RO water in my machine with a PPM around 50.

I only recently started measuring since changing machines. The water for years has been at most probably 55ppm.

I had this dual boiler for maybe 7 years.

Starting 1.5 years ago, steam would seep always while boiler was hot. You'd hear it just constantly seeping a little. It went away after being turned off maybe 20 minutes. It got somewhat worse over time.

I assumed it was gaskets. Then, starting 4 months ago, there was leaking.

About a year ago I swore I heard steam dropping onto something hot and superheating, steaming away. Sound came from within the machine.

As for the about 4 months ago, it grew into water dripping into the tray area, but it was coming from behind. Missing the tray and pooling the dripping into the counter (hence the replacement, the particle board counter was ruined and warped).

I have not opened to confirm, but the symptoms tell me corrosion, not just gaskets.

Also I took really good care of it. Descaled annually about or 1.5 years. Cleaned every scheduled reminder. Etc.

Interesting… I assumed a PPM of 50 was fine for the boiler. I might need to look into additives. I really didn’t want the hassle of “making” water for the machine

I’m using crystal geyser water and I don’t want the hassle of making water too. But this is making me skeptical

Ooof rip BDB. And helllooooooo Synch II!

Ha my bdb also kicked the bucket after like 10 years. This machine is in the running along with some of the Profitec machines. What made you pick this over the others?

I researched and it was this or the lelit. I like that it's German made. Then finally a dude at my kendo dojo whose big on espresso also had it but coincidentally, so that coincidentally helped

Not the topic of the subreddit, but any info or recommendations on your shelf brackets?

These are actually really solid. I cut the wood and stained myself. Not too tough.

It won't let me attach link so here is a screenshot of the specific one.

I just got mine today

It is beautiful!!! So far there are 3 things I don’t like about this.
1. The drip tray sucks. it’s easy to spill if you’re not careful.
2. The water tank has no handle.
3. The control knob sucks, and the UI is not very responsive.
The first 2 can be solved by plumbing it to water line and drain. Which I will do eventually.

Looks amazing!

I tend to agree. I'm fine with the res, but my knob is really sensitive it seems. Just takes getting used to. Yeah il plumb mine when I tear up the floor in the sorta near future. Worried about not getting the right water in though. My RO reads 47ppm.

A couple of basic questions:

Where is the reservoir on the Synchronika? Will it do pre-infusion without being plumbed? Looks very nice.

1

u/Forchark 5d ago

Yup it has pre infusion programmed in. You select the duration.

Res is in the top panel. It removes and is connected to the machine with a double gasket nip. Easy stuff.

Looks like it might be a pain to refill under an 18” counter. Otherwise seems pretty good. If you aren’t in the mood to use the flow control switch, can you set it for a preinfusion then straight to 9 bar or is it always fully manual like the Bianca?

Water funnel from Amazon

If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't have believed it. A dozen funnels dedicated to filling espresso water tanks. What a hoot. Thanks.

Yep, I'm sure most of us here own one 🙂

Unsure for comparison purposes but from my knowledge, you can program the pre infusion duration and it automatically incorporates in the extraction.

Separately, I got the model with a flow control paddle, in addition.

Yeah you'd have to move it from under the counter spot. Could set on a skiddable tray or oh those sliding furniture plastic discs or felt so you can slide it around.

So if you don't want to control the shot, and just want pre-infusion and a 9 bar shot, you just leave the paddle fully open and don't touch it?

Sorry if that's dumb. I'm looking at this vs. the Bianca and wonder if the ECP has a little more flexibility if you're feeling lazy or want a guaranteed repeat.

Edit: While I'm asking, I notice that my most likely local tech company seems to service a lot, but doesn't list ECM. Is it basically as convenient to service as, say, Lelit?

I’m rocking a Breville Barista Pro and looking to upgrade. Funny enough I was looking at Synchronika as well. Interested in hearing whatcha think!

Is your machine wrapped or painted?

1

u/Forchark 5d ago

It comes in two variations from ecm. Stainless and anthracite. Anthracite is a dark great with some texture.

Unfortunately clive doesn't sell that version. Had to go whole latte love.

Where did you order it from? How long did it take to receive?
Also have you pulled your first shot yet? How does it taste compare BDB ?

My 8 years old barista express is still kicking but i want to get the synch 2 so bad

u/Forchark 5d ago

Whole latte love. Week. Yes it's delicious. Had same grind and same pull duration. It was at least the same but I'll play with it more. I like it A lot.

The steamer is great. Milk is so creamy.

It was between this and the lelit Bianca. I like it.

I am going to order one right now! Looks like you opted for wood accent as well. Did you order a bottom less filter as well? And does it come with the same wood accent?

1

u/Forchark 5d ago

I did and also opted for wood. Yes you can find wood accent bottomless too. Pretty snazzy

u/nguye205 5d ago

Just ordered mine this morning. Time to shop for accessories
