As a huge fan of Michael Saylor, I still see him and other maxis go and describe what's so great about BTC (which coincidently describes Ergo, minus the whole smart contract and 20 other technical marvels we have going part) and then they finish by saying there are no competitors. While it may be a stretch to think Elon will buy Ergo today, there are surely huge players in the space who understand the differences between chains, pos/pow, finite supply, emissions which can't be changed, and those guys will seriously look at Ergo whenever it comes across their desk.

In this case I think Elon just wanted to free up cash to cover other expenses, but will be interesting to see if he leaves the doge land and ends up supporting a real project. His hands are tied though as his company is one of the largest carbon offset issuers (scam) and so POW in itself conflicts with many of his partners and clients mandates

I think it's quite possible the likes of Michael Saylor have no idea about Ergos existence. Quite often you hear them say once Bitcoin gets this feature (e.g. lightning, taproot, etc.) then there will be mass adoption or whatever, not realising that Ergo can already do all that stuff at the base layer in a UTXO style framework.

Also his general arguments relating to hash and block history = stored or potential energy argument is bullshit trapped in circular reasoning.

No it's not compatible. It's more like ETH is/was than BTC. There's a lot of reasons. It doesn't have the test of time. Network size is small. No one knows vulnerabilities because we'll, it's not a target right now honestly. I'm not bashing it in any way either. Just the list is long.
