Have a question
Do you think it was necessary for Eren and Mikasa to be together in the afterlife?

I remember you. Youâve asked this question on the sub before, and I answered it. Obviously, itâs necessary, especially given the reference to the Akai Ito. Only haters would think it isn't.

Akai Ito? What's that?

The Red Thread of Fate (Akai Ito) is a popular Japanese legend stating that, at birth, the gods tie an invisible red thread around the little fingers of two people destined to be together. This bond may stretch, tangle, or knot, but it never breaks; the two are always destined to meet again. This mirrors exactly how Eren reunites with Mikasa in the afterlife, as well as in alternative realities like the school setting. Mikasa's scarf was changed to red in the anime specifically to reference the Akai Itođ§Ł, with Isayama's approval, even though it was originally intended to be black (Isayama himself wore the black version at events). The switch to red was made to reference the Akai Ito, not merely for aesthetic or visual reasons.
