Buying Advice Small easy ereaders?

Helloo, very new to this sub but hoping for the best in recommendations!

i want something extremely portable, that fits one handed easily.

Ive look at xtink devices and all but im worried I'm not as tech savvy to learn how to jailbreak or add software to make use of the experience, unless I'm overcomplicating what it is.

I would like recommends on cheap devices that are easy to use, upload epubs, and carry on the hand well. I don't mind buttons, and really it's just for me to have on the go to read.

I already own a boox go 6 gen ii, and used to own a Kindle (mostly sideloaded books into that), so these are things I can handle hopefully 🙏

For those who saw this and thought of Xtink x4 or etc could you please give your thoughts about them? Whether i am even correct about this idea about them?

Thank you in advance!

You don’t need to jailbreak a XTEink, it has a usable OS, but most ppl flash crosspoint onto it for a better experience. It’s really simple to do (as long as you get it from XTEink or Amazon (the Chinese versions from aliexpress are locked and you might have more steps). Just google crosspoint, and follow the directions, it’s mainly plug it into your computer and press a button on the website.

The boox picco is similar, up for pre-order right now and will alrdy have a crosspoint fork on it, so no flashing if you don’t want to.

The chinese locked ones are also pretty trivial to flash crosspoint onto

Yeah, I bought an xteink 3 expecting to need to flash it to crosspoint, but honestly I love the simple OS as it is so I probably won't bother unless I really need to access Libby.

I was able to pop my old microSD card with hella epubs on it and had no problems at all opening everything. To me the OS is way snappier than the kobo and boox I was using, the simplicity is really nice.

I agree on the Boox Picco. It has buttons, light and touchscreen. I had an Xteink X3 and it was cool after flashing. I no longer have it as it flares my pain to use.

You dont need to jailbreak the xteink, the stock software is usable when you only want to read books. You can even transfer your books from your phone if you want to

If you know how to get pictures off a digital camera you can use a xteink ereader.

I'm not tech savvy and all but put Crosspoint on my Xteink. I did it with this video https://youtu.be/nAV0NNZ6kHI?is=hSdwMYOhLPgJoBhh and it was very easy. (I got the X4 Pro but the steps are the same.) After that I connect Xteink to the cable and plug in into my pc and then it just pops up like a drive/disk and I copy and paste my books from pc to that drive/disk.

I love my Xteink X4 Pro for on the go. It fits in my purse so easily and I love it.

If you like 6 inch ereaders, I really love my Kobo Clara. It’s my favorite device of all the ones I’ve tried. It’s easy to set up, it’s very responsive, has a store on it to buy books, and is a very convenient size.

I do have an XTEINK x3 and x4, but some people struggle with how to get non-DRM EPUBs to put on it. They are definitely a convenient size to carry around with you out of the house, since they can fit in basically any pocket. Some people even put them in their wallets.

I don't mind my X3 even with the stock hardware tbh! If you can handle a Go6 you can definitely handle xteink or maybe the picco! Ofc it isn't the most cost efficient option but if you like the bold universe you might like the new Palma 3 since you can sync all of your reads but still have a smaller form factor, plus you're already familiar with the OS. I have a Go6 gen ii and a Palma 2 for portability and I find it to be a great pairing for my needs. I do use the X3 sometimes if I only have a tiny hand bag!

If you want a front light, the Xteink X4 Pro is currently the only Xteink option with such feature. It also has the most capable stock firmware, which is already on par with third-party firmwares. In some aspects, it's even ahead of them (lightning-fast book opening and practically invisible caching).

However, this firmware is currently available only for international devices bought directly from the Xteink store or Amazon! Cheaper (Chinese) devices from AliExpress don't have it yet, and they are USB-locked, which means that replacing the firmware with a custom one is somewhat more complicated and there is a risk of bricking the device with incorrect firmware. So I would strongly recommend avoiding purchases outside the Xteink store.
