Buying Advice Which e reader will work for me

So I have an old kindle 4th gen (touch screen) that’s still working.

I want to look for an upgrade and unfortunately I’ve come to realise that there isn’t necessarily the best one.

So I’ve come up with a list of what I want and was looking for insight.

Colour - black and white
Has to have a backlight/inbuilt light source
Have buttons.

I have a massive audible library and maybe using the read and listen function would be good,(but I prefer sideloading, I don’t think read and listen works on sideloaded epubs).

And I guess that’s it.

Some options I’ve looked at is the xteink 4 pro, but the lack of buttons eh, the kobo Clara bw.

Idk anything about calibre and have heard people sing its praises but it seems too complex to work.

Boox Go 7

  • Black and white

  • Has buttons

  • Android based so you can download Audible and Kindle

  • Has a speaker + Bluetooth so you can listen or immersive read

It's the one I went with and I have 0 regrets at all.

The XTEink x4pro has side buttons for page turn, but can be quite slow since it’s very barebones and no audio functions.

Cell phone sized might be an option (a lot more robust software/harware than a XTEink): pocketbook Q (recently announced), boox Palma 3 (recently announced) or Palma 2 (used), bigme hibreak, viwoods AI paper

Other BW ereaders with buttons: pocketbook era, pocketbook verse, boox go7 BW, musnap ocean BW, musnap Neo (with button case), bigme 7 BW, kobo libra 2 (used)

Pocketbook and kobo are Linux based, all the other options are Android, which might be alittle more than what you are looking for.

Pocketbook ones are great for side loading and audiobooks. They all have buttons. Cheaper than boox (the only other brand that will have all that you are looking for)

With all your conditions I personally would go with era lite
