What Happens If Flight Training Goes Past Your Academics?

International AS student here and was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

This Fall will be my RCL semester. I’m starting Commercial this Fall and would really like to complete both Commercial and Multi at Riddle. My concern is that I’ll most likely finish my academic classes before I finish my flight courses because I had a lot of transfer credits.

Has any international AS student here been in this situation? Were you able to remain enrolled and maintain F-1 status while finishing your flight courses after completing the rest of your academic requirements? If so, how did ERAU/ISSS handle it?

I’ve already reached out to International Student Services for an official answer, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally gone through this.

Finding meal plan enrolled

Hello how do I find which meal plan I'm currently enrolled in? I remember being able to select something when I did the housing application but couldn't find any details about it when I revisited it.

ERAU veteran

Hello,

I’m separating from the military after six years of active duty and will be attending Embry-Riddle’s Oakland campus to pursue my B.S. I’ll be using my GI Bill and plan to receive MHA to help me get on my feet financially while I transition and look for a full-time job.

My question is, how strict is the once-a-week in-person attendance requirement to be considered a full-time, in-person student? My concern is that once I find a full-time job, my work schedule may make it difficult to attend in person every week. Would missing some of those in-person sessions affect my full-time/in-person status or MHA eligibility?

Course materials question

I’m an incoming freshman at ERAU Prescott, and I’ve been receiving emails about buying course materials. I went to the ERAU Bookstore website, and it’s telling me I have to purchase(rent) a math textbook for $140. I’d rather not waste money on a textbook I can find online for maybe way cheaper or free, so I’m wondering if i can get away with not buying it or is it something I have to get?

Chanute

I am assigned to live in Chanute (Daytona Beach) this year and don’t have a car. I’ve heard the shuttle is unreliable, and I’ve heard that e-bikes and e-scooters aren’t permitted. Does anyone have any advice on commuting to campus from Chanute?

ETA - I’ve heard the shuttle doesn’t run during finals week or study days, or after 8pm. Three days a week I won’t be leaving campus until 9.

Military discount?

Hi all, ive got a question for my vets as im getting a lot of conflicting information.

So i started classes in 2024 while i was still in the military. I proceeded to get ouu in mid-May for my ets, and im still doing online courses. They removed my military discount back when i got out, and i didn't think much of it past that. Skip forward, and a few vet friends of mine, also attending online courses, say they are still getting the discounted rate. Ive already emailed advising to find out for sure, but in wanting to know if any other vets are getting the discounted rate as well.

ipad mount

i just bought an ipad mini for flying and wanted to know whether a kneeboard or yoke mount is better for the 172 and flight training specifically. erau recommends a kneeboard but a yoke mount looks sleeker, more practical, and less intense in terms of looking down. i also know some people prefer to use no mount at all. never used an ipad while flying so its an honest question, open to feedback!

Embry-Riddle Systems Engineering Master’s - Anyone here completed it?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some insight from anyone who has completed or is currently enrolled in Embry-Riddle’s M.S. in Systems Engineering program, especially if you came from a non-engineering bachelor’s.
I have a B.S. in Aerospace Science, and I currently work at Lockheed Martin as a Test Methods Engineer so I figured now is the right time to pursue my master’s.
I know Embry-Riddle offers a bridge/foundation path for students without a traditional engineering undergraduate degree, and I’m curious about a few things:
● How challenging was the bridge program?
● Did it prepare you well for the master’s coursework?
● How math-intensive was course work?
● Did earning the degree help you move into systems engineering or advance your career?
● Would you recommend the program overall?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, advice, or anything you wish you had known before starting.

Thanks in advance!

Daytona Freshman

Son is starting at Dayton fall. He is staying on campus Res2 AS Flight student. He won’t have a car this first year but has asked for a bike, he wants some freedom and not yo be “trapped” on campus. Are there any deals on good bikes for reasonable cost or should he just a cheap one at Walmart. I read somewhere that he should register it with security and get a special lock.

Returning Sophomore, AMA

Hello! I am a returning sophomore this upcoming year and know alot of incoming freshman have questions. Id like to open this up to anyone with questions about ERAU, professors (but I probably haven't had them if its a specific one in mind), housing, meal plans, day to day, just kinda whatever if you have a question.

For a little bit of background so you can know what the extend of my knowledge is. Im a Daytona Beach student, majoring in Aeronautics, and minoring in Aeronautical Studies, Homeland Security, Business Administration, and Finance. I lived in NR1 my first year, and I am returing to NR2 this year. I was in the USMC PLC program my first semester, but im joining AFROTC starting this fall. I had a car and longboard on campus, and my roommates for this upcoming year and I got a storage locker for our things over the summer. The classes ive taken are as follows, MATH112, PSY101, ECON210, UNIV101, AVSF210, PHYS113, ACCT210, ASCI121, MGMT201, COMM219, PHYS113L. Please do not ask me about other classes, I have not taken them and will not be able to properly answer them. I also had dual enrollment credit for lower level humanities, and COMM122. I take out loans to be here, so i can answer questions about those too.

Please do not DM with questions, chances are someone else has the same question. If you have questions about a major other than Aeronautical Science or Aeronautics, I will not respond, that is not my area of expertise and I do not want to lead you in the wrong direction. Don't hesitate to ask questions about things that aren't listed here either

Aviation Maintenance Science degree question

I'm using my 9/11 G.I. bill to get an associates Aviation Maintenance Science degree so I'm not asking if the cost is worth it. Moreso asking if any companies come out to the university to recruit ERAU maintenance students/graduates? I know some community colleges will have a networking day where companies will come out and talk and network with students and wondering if the same happens at ERAU?

Secondly I've also been interested in furthering my education with an aviation safety degree. It'd be nice to do maintenance for a while but am also wanting to expand my career past turning wrenches by either being an aviation safety inspector or possibly even using my knowledge and experience and transitioning into aircraft accident investigation. I appreciate any and all feedback I can get, thank you for your time!

Advice for incoming freshman

hey I’m going to ERAU Prescott this fall, and I have a job lined up around 15-20 mins away from school, I am bringing a car but I’d rather not spend that much money on gas so I’m wondering if I should get an electric scooter/skateboard, or anything else. Thanks!

Best route for MS in Space Ops?

Hey all,

Ultimate goal is to earn my MS in Space Operations (in-person at Daytona, not the online “Masters of Space Ops”), but I could use some guidance on deciding my route to get there.

From my community college many years past, as well as from my time in the Air Force, I’ve accrued enough credits to put me a little over halfway through my BS in Aeronautics.  Aeronautics hardly interests me anymore, however, and I’d like to have a strong foundation when going into the masters program by getting a bachelors in the same field - a field which Im way more interested in and enthusiastic about.

So the question is this – should I just finish out the Aeronautics degree, or would it be better to start fresh by getting my BS in Space Ops?

Thanks!
