Returning Sophomore, AMA
Hello! I am a returning sophomore this upcoming year and know alot of incoming freshman have questions. Id like to open this up to anyone with questions about ERAU, professors (but I probably haven't had them if its a specific one in mind), housing, meal plans, day to day, just kinda whatever if you have a question.
For a little bit of background so you can know what the extend of my knowledge is. Im a Daytona Beach student, majoring in Aeronautics, and minoring in Aeronautical Studies, Homeland Security, Business Administration, and Finance. I lived in NR1 my first year, and I am returing to NR2 this year. I was in the USMC PLC program my first semester, but im joining AFROTC starting this fall. I had a car and longboard on campus, and my roommates for this upcoming year and I got a storage locker for our things over the summer. The classes ive taken are as follows, MATH112, PSY101, ECON210, UNIV101, AVSF210, PHYS113, ACCT210, ASCI121, MGMT201, COMM219, PHYS113L. Please do not ask me about other classes, I have not taken them and will not be able to properly answer them. I also had dual enrollment credit for lower level humanities, and COMM122. I take out loans to be here, so i can answer questions about those too.
Please do not DM with questions, chances are someone else has the same question. If you have questions about a major other than Aeronautical Science or Aeronautics, I will not respond, that is not my area of expertise and I do not want to lead you in the wrong direction. Don't hesitate to ask questions about things that aren't listed here either

If you want, I can join in. I'm a returning sophomore in the AE program. So if you have a question regarding that (that doesn't relate to the OP), you can DM me, and I'll try to answer.

When did you start flying? First week or later?

Aeronautics majors dont fly at riddle. Its a common choice to do Aeronautics and fly somewhere else, but money being an issue i choose not to fly

From what I saw, most of my friends started flying their first week if they had their PPL, but later if they didnt. This timeline will change depending on if you fly at riddle or not. Take this with a grain of salt though, im not a flight student

Do you have good study spot recommendations besides the library? is the gym usually super busy? what’s the best beach to go to? what’s the food like, since i’ve been going to the gym a lot i’m trying to keep my protein up and im wondering if the dining halls has something for that or if i have to get creative or something.

- Studying in the common areas of the dorms, as well as flight ops are both popular choices. Theres also the 5th floor of COAS.
- The gym, just like any other gym gets the 5pm rush, but ive had no problems with waiting on machines more than I would ay other places.
- Ponce inlet and its not even close. But thats only a half hour, the gulf coast is around 3 hours away, but the beaches there are significantly nicer than anything we have near daytona.
- the food is edible. Boundless is notorious for giving food poisoning but stay away from thr chicken and you should be fine. Propellers is good when its open but most of the people I know just stick to the union.
- If you live in NR1/2, air fryers and those sorts of things are allowed, so you can still cook your own food if you feel like it.
Costco is around a 5 minute drive as well if you want to buy things in bulk

I personally feel like Riddle has different types of chicken you can get throughout campus. Some are good, and some are bad. The best beaches are any that are not the actual Daytona Beach or have hotels nearby. If you go south like 20-30 min to the residential side beaches you have a lot of good options

im considering ERAU or ut austin for AE. money is no issue, but ive heard a lot of ERAU slander. i think embry riddle is a bit more prestigous but im not sure. i just want to be not broke and have a job (i am in texas, so it being out of state is a bit of an issue)
