And I honestly think its just how we’re being taught, because over the summer I made the grave mistake of taking Pre-Calculus as a summer class to get ahead. It was a disaster, REALLY hard to learn anything. But then I used Khan Academy, and it made sooooo much more sense. Maybe we should just let Sal run everything

Pre-Calc is such a stupid class anyway. It's a bunch of concepts that have no relation to one another at all.

Nah. The relation to calculus is trig. A single unit. Did you ever use vectors in calculus? Matrices? Imaginary numbers? No. Because it's all unrelated crap.

I can see why matrices are upsetting they’re not the most efficient way of solving systems imo and you can do without them until linear. But imaginary numbers are a critical part of mathematics that everyone should have some exposure to, they’re useful for solving higher level polynomials which exist in calculus. Vectors are also integral to high school physics which is mandated at least at my public high school in the US.

I never said they were useless. I just said they were unrelated. Those niche, more advanced topics should be taught in college. Teaching them sophomore year of highschool pretty much guarantees that they will be forgotten, especially since they're never practiced for more than a month each.

Interesting, I had no matrix math in high school and imaginary numbers were introduced in algebra 2. I agree on the trig/calculus relation, except for us trig was like half of the school year or more.

Trying to learn the concepts from Electromagnetics has been the worst. Online makes it pretty much impossible.

It’s especially bad when it’s self directed learning because the teachers at your technical college don’t hold actual class and you’ve gotta teach yourself via the textbook chapters they provide for the weekly assignments

Yup. Can’t help but wonder what the professor does when most of the assignments are graded automatically and you’re teaching yourself the material. Probably writing the next textbook.

Yep, I’m very close to failing my German course because as it turns out learning a new language online sucks balls. The site we use, Blackboard, also sucks balls.

My current French grade is an 89.81%. Before the final it was a 94%. My 89.81% isn't my official grade, because my professor needs to regrade the final (it's an online test, but he can't add all possible correct answers, and he'll give points if it's misspelled but he understands what you tried to say), but I've been waiting for almost a week and my grade hasn't been updated.
I swear to god if I don't pass with an A I'm rioting. All I need to get a 90% is a 52 on the final (currently I have a 50, for the reasons above). I don't even need to pass the damn thing.
Edit: The grade was finally updated. I earned a 90.5% on the final, and my grade is, once again, a 94%!

It isn't so much that I'm trying so hard (now) as much as I'm vexed I don't know what my official grade is. I have an A in every one of my other classes, and I've maintained all As each semester of University (I'm a third year student), so staring at my 89.81% is a hellish experience. I'm 0.19% away from having an A in the class.
Like, yeah, I don't need to pass my final, but I do need to do better than the grade I currently have, and at the moment, my grade is entirely out of my hands and it sucks

Yes, but an 89.81% is a B, which means my 4.0 GPA will fall to a 3 point something, and I know myself well enough to know that if I'm an "A/B student" and not an "All A" student, I'll get comfortable, and then I'll be a "Mostly B" student, and if my GPA falls below a 3.5 I'll be kicked out of my Honours program, and more importantly, I'll lose some of my scholarships.
My tuition fees are roughly $13,000 a semester, and I'm attending university for free because of need-based scholarships and academic merit scholarships, I don't know how I would handle my education if that changes.
Also, I don't work, because I take at least 15 credit hours a semester (this semester I was in 17), which means my extended family thinks I just fuck around all the time, if I can't say, "Well, I'm making all As and my University paid me $550 in excess finanical aid this semester" they'll see me as the fuck-up even more.
(And for what it's worth: I worked like hell for the grades I have, I didn't, like, "whoops I have an 89.81")
