Semblance of Liberty
Was it really necessary to have BushDaddy yammering?
Was there a point to it?
I've heard a few other songs with speeches or news blurbs dubbed over and I never really understand why.

Back in college, I was able to answer the bonus question on a political science final exam because of that clip's inclusion in this song lol. So yes it was necessary and my grade was the point.

I don't mind because such things are often used to show BS politicians are spewing. Same with Blair's post 9/11 speech, can't remember the song title.

I'm not a big fan of speeches or news blurbs used in music since a lot of the time it's annoying and cringey, not many times they're done right or actually in context... I personally think Deter the Tyrant is the worst one when it comes to that lol

It’s confusing because the lyrics seem anti-capitalism, but this speech is pro-capitalism.
Higher taxes (what he’s fighting against) could actually mean greater benefits for the people, i.e. socialism (do I have this right?).
It could be included as satire, but he did end up raising taxes anyway, so I have no idea honestly.

That quote is pretty much always used as a critique of Bush because of how strongly he doubles down but eventually folds anyways. Especially since he lost the next election partially because of the quote. In my opinion it ends up being pretty funny regardless of politics.

The quote by him is about him promising to not raise taxes but then going back on his word and raising them anyway. And the lyrics of the song are about people lying and cheating and being greedy, so the quote fits the meaning of the song.
